NLIs are due on feb 5th. You would imagine we'd want the coach to have at least 60 days to work on keeping/adjusting the current class. That would mean we'd need a coach by early December, but that seems rather abrupt. What's everyone's feeling on when we'll hear?

ASAP. Need to get on the recruiting trail and secure the commits you want to retain and line up new ones.

When is Oregon's last regular season game?

I assume this also means that Coyle was given the green light in terms of $$$$ for the new coaching staff?

No more than 3 weeks. Pulling the plug today shows this has been in motion for a while and they are gonna jump on this

What, if any, upcoming black out periods are there?

I would think Mark Coyle has been putting feelers out for a while now. I don't think he would have done this unless he became convinced he could get someone he considered a great fit right away.

Obviously, the sooner the new hire can be announced, the better. The pool just gets smaller and the choices more limited as you delay things.

Not this week, it'll be at least after BC but my guess is it could be within a week after the BC game. Maybe a couple weeks depending on when the hire wants to be announced as well based on where they are coming from.

after the bowls are announced, but before they are played...we will have a new HC.

at that point if the new guy would like to hire marrone to coach his OL...i would have no problem with that.

I think a new coach will be named rather quickly, enough time where the new coach can reach out to some of our current recruits but enough time where he can get some of his own guys too. Wouldn't be surprised if we are one of the first schools to fill our opening as Coyle pretty much has it down to a few candidates and I was told he feels good about a couple of his big name candidates or he wouldn't have made the move today.

I would think some time within the next week or so.I doubt this is some impulse move made in the last 2 days.We need to get a guy in here and working on recruiting ASAP!

how much could he have been looking 3 weeks ago. you cant fire SS if they beat clemson, nor if they had beaten NCst and BC. and if you were out looking weeks ago why would a coach want to come to a place that is looking when the season still could have turned out OK.

He most certainly could have known 3 weeks ago that barring something insane happening he was making this move. He could have known after the end of half botches in back to back games. Even if it ended up where we landed in bizarro world and Shafer won all the remaining games, it would have been foolish of Coyle to react instead of act to the situation. He has to act first and not wait to find out he has to fire Shafer. This is a quick moving situation and he didn't want to get jammed because he waited 2 weeks to see if what he felt was the right move was indeed the right move.

Oregon State

That is Oregons last game. So I would expect and interview the next week.

I really feel we can do a lot worse than someone who was the offensive coordinator for one of the most well-known prolific offenses in college football.

Short bio blurb:

After the departure of Chip Kelly, the University of Oregon promoted Helfrich to head coach and Frost was later officially announced as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on January 31, 2013.[3]

In his first season as Oregon's offensive coordinator, Frost's offense set a school record for total offense in a season at 7,345 yards, besting the old mark of 7,319 in 2011, which happened during a 14-game season.[4] Oregon finished the season with an 11–2 record and a top-ten ranking after beating Texas 30–7 in the 2013 Alamo Bowl.

Granted we don't have their athletes or talent, but their scheme would work well in the dome.

Seriously. He broke Oregon records after Chip left. I'd take a chance on this guy.

ASAP. Too many openings. Get your guy quick before someone else comes after him.

He has a lot more positives than that. Actually has experience coaching on the other side of the ball. Has been taught by a number of well respected coaches. He has pulled recruits out of Florida (Plant HS). He checks every box that we are looking for except that he doesn't have head coaching experience. Everything else is checked.

Agreed, also played in the NFL for a while. Won a national championship at Nebraska as a player. Young, smart guy. Strangely, everyone assumes our new coach is just going to be some idiot who doesn't care about the kids or can't manage a game. This guy can't be worse than Shafer so if we hired frost, worst case scenario, we'd have an offensive mind who makes dumb in game decisions. Better than a defensive mind who makes dumb in game decisions. And I'm fairly confident an offensive guy will be much, much more aggressive when it comes to kick fgs/punting/going for it.
