Recognizing there is plenty of blame to go around it seems to me our OL is/was vastly overrated. The decision to hire an OL coach with no experience is looking like a big mistake.

The o-line is beat up but very undisciplined. Louisville had penalties and scored points...SU has penalties and fads out of sight of the goal line after a first and goal. I don't know Crusty if this coach knows his stuff and I am not sure what the heck I am watching out there. The film would help I suppose but the results show me they are struggling.

I think you're only partially right. The one thing you have to say is that they have done a better than average job protecting Hunt. And they've done that with a lot of shifting guys because of injury. He had forever again last night against a real good DL. The penalty thing, though, I have absolutely HAD IT with.

True...ND and Louisville have very good talent on the defensive side of the ball and I'd love to see what a stats guru could do with an SOS in that department because this team has faced a slew of 5-0/4-1 type teams.

No. They were missing a starter and it showed. Louisvilles D is really really good. I thought we held up and even got some decent push in the 3rd running the ball.

Still have only allowed a few sacks and have a good run average and if Hunt is chucking it deep - it's been good protection to do so.

I think a big source of our red zone problem is our O line can't get low and execute traditional run blocking. It looks like all they do is zone read blocking. When we're first and goal on the one, the D has their ears pinned back and they get all kinds of penetration. You can literally watch our guards turn and barely get their hands on the DL as they run by and crush our backs in the backfield.

center position is a big, big problem. agree not seeing nasty run blocking from the other guys. really think they need to reconsider the center position and make a move. the snap is certainly not trivial in this type of offensive scheme (which is a ty scheme for our personnel), but you have to get a consistent push in order to be successfull.

Need to go all in on a ground and pound offense. Gotta control the ball. Move trudo to center, miller to bench. While foy is hurt, would rather have lasker at tackle (yikes) than miller at center. Simplify Hunt's reads. Move him out of the pocket with play action and give him a high, low and intermediate read. Need use more of a play action game. you can do that out of the pistol if you want, but we have to establish the run and build off of that. I still think we can win games with our current quarterback situation, but he is showing that he can't run the spread. Wilson nearly crapped his pants when the pocket collapsed on him and I think that T is going to be our QB1 for the next two years based on what is on the roster currently. T has guts, can make the throws to be a game manager type quarterback.

Lester needs to call plays...can't be worse

Better than average? I watch the qb get carried off last night! And we can't move the ball short yardage at all..

Ask yourself how you grade an OL that cannot run block? We are also only playing without Foy last night. A lot of the grief MCD is getting belongs on the failure of the OL to move anybody. When they pull they get there late if they get there at all.

There is no way we can run our offense without run blocking.

Held up good? We got 59 yards on 25 carries for a 2.4 ypc avg and running is supposed to be our strength. If one very average player is injured and we perform this way, it makes us just a very average line at best. The errors, missed blocks, pre-snap penalties never seem to end. Watch the replay on the first safety and see what you think of the blocking.

We are 106th in scoring. As I said there is enough blame to go around and the OL deserves their share.

The greatest error we make is believing out own BS. After 5 games we should stop.

The offensive line is not the problem with this team. They have been above average all year. The QB and the OC are the issue. Some of you are forgetting that SU has played two top ten defenses in the nation the past 2 weeks.

Yes, and so what? If the OL can only play well against CMU and to some degree MD they are certainly part of the problem. They were not good against Nova, ND or MD. There is just no way to say they have played above average. Perhaps between the 30's but that is it.

The offensive line play has been good. Except for Louisville SU has had a lot of yards and you can't get yards without good line play. hunt has hardly been pressured at all. Do you actually watch the games?
