Wrote this as soon as I heard Wildhack's radio hit...good therapy even though i don't expect the admin to actually, you know, do the right thing...

...this isn’t a typical retired number. This isn’t Michael Jordan’s legendary 23, or Larry Bird’s 33, each of which absolutely warrants a lifetime retirement by the NBA’s Bulls and Celtics respectively. And it’s not Jackie Robinson’s 42, which is justifiably retired from the sport of baseball for good. No, Syracuse’s 44 is and always has been the University’s number. The Program’s number. The Community’s number. It’s a number that has been borrowed by and bestowed upon truly exceptional players, each one of whom knew from the second that the number was adorned on their backs it would have to be given back.

To me it seems obvious they are making sure the other former players are involved before they give it to Tucker. He's going to be one of the best returning RB's in the country next season. It's a positive PR spot for a program that sorely needs good pub.

Outstanding. Gross should never have retired it and the administration should never have painted themselves into a corner with this 44 committee. In order to give Sean 44, JW will have to defy the Little family and Jim Brown and he won’t have the sack to do that

I took my best shot, for whatever it may be worth. Likely very little.

it made no sense to do it last friday with the little celebration planned , its going to take time and there is time before next season to discuss it

2 things.

1- I'm ok with them not doing it mid season. But...Little really wanted it back on the field. Seems it would be a really fiiting way to honor his wishes. And...
2- It really doesn't need to take that much time. Like...it could be done tomorrow if they wanted. Unless there is some shady fughazi legal contract the likes of which I can't even conceptualize (and which really needs to be explained)

if there going to go thru the committee thing it will take time though you are right the number should of never been retired

I think we are talking about two sides of the same coin.

Yes. If they go through a committee it will take take time.

But Wildhack and the university COULD unilaterally reverse a bad decision by the previous administration.

Or...more likely...he SHOULD say, in response to a question about it..."We are excited about seeing what Sean Tucker has done, and we plan on having conversations about the 44 in the offseason." I could live with that.

Instead we get "premature" and "complicated".

it's not complicated.

it's not complicated.

Nor is it premature.

So - he’s wrong on both counts.

Maybe. But I think he made it more of one. I probably wouldnt have written this article if he said that. Nor would social media be crucifying him or the program.

We will see. One thing I stand...this home of an amazing PR program can't get out its own way when it comes to corporate comm...

at least there were no spelling issues on the jersey presented thats progress at least

Unretire it and use it the way we always used it, to recruit. If you want to give it to Sean for a year, hopefully he goes on a Heisman run and there's a lot of publicity and then use it to recruit his replacement.
I'm fine dangling it, but they can't get it till they deliver.

Floyd’s wife said in the halftime interview something like she’d like to keep it retired as it’s a good way to honor him. It didn’t sound to me like she wanted it un-retired

DeBorah Little, the wife of the legendary Syracuse football running back Floyd Little, said Friday that she would like to see their grandson wear the No. 44 if he attends Syracuse in two years.

“I’d like to see Blaze Little-Jones wear No. 44. That was Floyd’s dream since our grandson was born,” DeBorah Little said when asked if she would like to see Syracuse running back Sean Tucker wear the program’s iconic jersey number.

DeBorah Little, who delivered a heartfelt speech to honor the life of her late husband during halftime of Syracuse’s football game against Clemson, said the Little family has asked that the number be reserved until their grandson has the opportunity to wear it. She said Jones-Little is currently a junior in high school.
