When it comes to the 44, it's not complicated...it's just time.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here. He has the authority to, at the very least, be more aggressive, transparent, and open-minded in seeking remedies to the awful situation his predecessor put the University in around this issue. And beyond that, completely squashing enthusiasm like he did in those interviews was just a complete PR blunder. "We know the fans are excited about Sean and we have heard connections to the 44. We will be having discussions after the season, but i have nothing else to share right now." That it! That's what you say to punt the ball without alienating everyone.

This program wants to get people to care about the program. Yet they pair their awful on the field performance with a refusal to actually hear the fans regarding things NOT (apparently) tied to a multi-million dollar buyout.
That's fine. I respect your view totally. I knew it wouldn't be my most popular post ever. But I do agree that I'd love to see 44 back out there again.

If the Little family and the 3 other families have monetary consideration then the school should listen to them.

If this is just because of what Dr.Gross did in 2005 for a Senior day shutout at the hands of USF then we are dumb.

If there is money tied to this, we have another whole problem entirely.

Can't we do what we did to the Dome and rename 44 to 4.4 or Forty Four? That would get us out of this contract to the 44 folks.

I fail to see what the 44 families gave in consideration for the school giving up a number?

There is a saying I once read, "no good joke survives a committee of six".

This has been way, way, way over-democratized. There will never be consensus.

If a kid that is likely a Doak Walker finalist and legit Heisman candidate next year cannot get 44, then who can? Honestly, who? I'm not talking about a kid that Syracuse fans think deserve to be in the Heisman discussion, I'm saying a legit candidate next year.

Why do we do this to ourselves as Syracuse fans? We can have nice things.

All due respect to the Little family, and god knows Floyd and his family should be given the utmost respect and gratitude (and I cannot stress this enough, I mean it, the man and his family bled orange through and through and contributed to the school on every level imaginable), this isn't their decision. Especially if they want his grandson to wear it as their POV? Eh...

ADJW needs to do his job, earn the support, even if it's begrudgingly, of people he thinks needs to support it and get this done.

At some point you have to pull the rip cord. You have to take action. You have to lead. Get this done.

Agreed. This is a perfect school for a RB and we are tailoring our offense around him and Shrader now. I hope that he will get #44 and we will see an uptick in recruiting top oline men. We cannot let Sean Tucker slip through our fingers.

I don't get why Tucker getting it now would effect her grandson getting it if/when he were to get here. If she means she wants it unretired specifically for him, then that's selfish in the extreme, imo.
Seems like she is just assuming that her grandson automatically gets into SU, automatically gets on the team, and has #44 taken out of retirement just for him. Dude that’s a lot.

If Tucker doesn't get it I won't stop watching but I will be far less inclined to spend any money on SU/SU sports. Will be a complete embarrassment and I will demand the AD to be fired ASAP.

I agree, he’s the featured back here and will be next year as well. He can get drafted out of SU just as easy as anywhere else. So one would think he stays.

But he didn’t look too happy with the decision of Dino kicking on Friday. He looked downright mad and maybe he would like to win some college games
Shoot, I was mad too! I'm glad he was upset. He was probably thinking, I can get us a 1st down. But a player being upset with a solitary decision does not cause one to leave. And if it did, that's not the type of player we want. Sean Tucker, by all accounts, is not that type of guy.

Support Sean Tucker by buying his jersey when it comes out so he can make some NIL $. If he doesn't make some NIL $ here, he may go somewhere where he can make some NIL $. I'm sure this is more important to him than what number he's wearing.

There is nothing complicated about this issue.

Simply make the decision to unretire #44 and give it to Sean Tucker.

Done. Easy.

DeBorah Little, the wife of the legendary Syracuse football running back Floyd Little, said Friday that she would like to see their grandson wear the No. 44 if he attends Syracuse in two years.

“I’d like to see Blaze Little-Jones wear No. 44. That was Floyd’s dream since our grandson was born,” DeBorah Little said when asked if she would like to see Syracuse running back Sean Tucker wear the program’s iconic jersey number.

DeBorah Little, who delivered a heartfelt speech to honor the life of her late husband during halftime of Syracuse’s football game against Clemson, said the Little family has asked that the number be reserved until their grandson has the opportunity to wear it. She said Jones-Little is currently a junior in high school.
I feel like Floyd's "dream" is being misconstrued here. I have a hard time believing that if there was a player worthy of the number by the measure of Ernie or Floyd (leaving Jim out due to his off the field situations), that Floyd would block that just because he wants the number to remain dormant so his grandson can have it at some point. I have to believe the spirit was that he wanted his grandson to wear the number when he was available as a college player, not for it to be held from being given to a worthy player prior to his grandson even being able to wear it.

The other thing is - are we even recruiting the grandson? If we have no intention of recruiting him then I would think that should speed things up here.

Tucker leaving will be a nightmare.

If he doesn't leave, you really need to quiet this ***t down. It's getting exhausting. You've turned into the transfer portal boogeyman because you talked to two parents who were upset with how the Rutgers game played out.

If they all do transfer, you can point out that you knew, and I'll promise to stop doubting you. Until then...

Or players leaving if DB stays.
There isn't going to be any real issues with roster retention if (when) Dino is confirmed to be coming back.

The program should always come first. Not Floyd's mom or Perry's grandma.

The 44/Tucker train has the potential to light a recruiting fire and establish an NFL pipeline of runningbacks. This is literally the only tradition and prestige that the program has. If there is some caveat with the 44 families that involves some legal BS, have Weitsman drop off some bags and let's move the on here!

God ADJW -- enough is enough.

Does anyone here know what promises, if any, were made to any of the family’s or players themselves when Gross retired 44?

Who cares?
Gross is gone.

What promises were made to Carrier when they named the Dome?
Things change.

No and that's a big part of my problem w JW.

He acts as if its impossible (its not) yet has given no clarity as to why
It’s not incumbent upon him to disclose any promises, contracts or monies donated or whatever happened that Gross made. My only point is that people are making assumptions and we don’t have all the facts/details.

We as a fanbase simply have to apply pressure. Then he’ll change his mind. We have to clamor for it non stop til he breaks.

until he breaks? I think you should boycott games until Tucker gets 44 if you’re that much up in arms about it.

Syracuse football has retired six jerseys; Donovan McNabb (5), Don McPherson (9), Larry Csonka (39), Joe Morris (47), John Mackey (88) and the No. 44. Yet, five of those numbers are being worn by current Syracuse players.

5, Mcnabb - Elmore
9, McPherson - Jonathan
39 Csonka - Masters
47, Morris - Mang
88, Mackey - Mahar

Why is okay to wear one "retired" number (5, 9, 39, 47 or 88) and not another, 44?
