When it comes to the 44, it's not complicated...it's just time.

It’s not incumbent upon him to disclose any promises, contracts or monies donated or whatever happened that Gross made. My only point is that people are making assumptions and we don’t have all the facts/details.
Fair, but it's also not incumbent on a fan base who has watched the program serve as a national doormat for 20 years to accept that lack of an explanation. This is giving me shades of the lax scandal in how people are being told not to use cognitive thinking based on common sense.

All the arrows pointed one way. SUAD did nothing to redirect them. And then there were people saying "you can't assume that this is the direction of the story".

Everything says this should be an easy thing to do. SUAD gives people no clarity as to why it is not. So yeah, assumptions will be made.

until he breaks? I think you should boycott games until Tucker gets 44 if you’re that much up in arms about it.
Not up in arms at all, neither am I suggesting a boycott. Other fan bases complain til they get what they want, why can’t we?

Syracuse football has retired six jerseys; Donovan McNabb (5), Don McPherson (9), Larry Csonka (39), Joe Morris (47), John Mackey (88) and the No. 44. Yet, five of those numbers are being worn by current Syracuse players.

5, Mcnabb - Elmore
9, McPherson - Jonathan
39 Csonka - Masters
47, Morris - Mang
88, Mackey - Mahar

Why is okay to wear one "retired" number (5, 9, 39, 47 or 88) and not another, 44?

circumstances of their retirement were different?

Perhaps. But how so? I actually had you pegged as one who might know.

There are many people on the board with excellent historical knowledge of the program, unfortunately I am not one of them. I'm hopeful that one of them can shed some light on this.

The jersey was retired for the others, not the number. 44 is the only number that was retired. Idiotic distinction (Mackey for example has a $&%& college football national award named after him) but that's what it is.

Could have simply just retired Jim/Floyd/Ernie's jerseys like the rest and created a 44 ring of honor for those that have worn the number that have excelled with it. But that would have actually required some thought.

Because as a rule, we retire or honor a jersey, not the number itself. With 44, Dr. Knucklehead did it different. I've beat this drum before, but those big three, wearing any other numbers, would all have individual numbers up there. Time to get three 44 jerseys up, and take down the single with no name on it.

It's funny that they have no problem exploiting the number for everything other than on field use.

Want to buy a jersey? Only available in 44.
Make a schedule poster? Have an artist draw a guy with 44 on his jersey.
Use graphics on the equipment truck? 44.

Can we get one of those online petitions going? Would that force them to listen to the fans? Not one of us would have ever approved that number going away.

if Tucker doesn’t get it than nobody should. Simple as that
Agreed. All those other players got the number before they even played in college no? Now Tucker/any future player has to jump through hoops for it? Does he have to win a Hiesman or become an All American before the “council” even thinks about it? This all reeks of incompetence by Gross/ the AD and certain people having personal feelings about 44 staying retired

i have no idea. I’m just throwing out possibilities.

Mid-season all American, reportedly a great teammate, also reportedly a quiet guy but with a big heart… still not 44 material in the eyes of “the council.”

Idiots
Ironic that Morris was offered the number and didn't want it and now Tucket wants it and can't get it.

At this point, Half of me thinks someone at the school is gonna convince him to say something like “I don’t want it I want my own legacy” just to give them cover.

That would suck. I hope that doesn’t happen.

This post has me thinking, has Tucker actually expressed as much? I know many of us want him to have it, myself included. Though I don’t know how he feels about it.

No and that's a big part of my problem w JW.

He acts as if its impossible (its not) yet has given no clarity as to why
Jake said it was impossible to install field turf. ADs say whatever is convenient.
