where was lally's response to waters article

My understanding is the chancellor and certain members of the board of trustees. But, I only know one side to this whole thing. I am just hopeful that the lines of communication can be opened and a compromise can be found.
I respect you for being so consistent in your support of Adam. Anything that can help Cuse basketball get back to where it should be is good with me.

That's what matters to most of us. From talking with Adam, I believe he feels that way also. If things can get ironed out, he is in. But, there is work to be done, and dasher is putting in some work. But, I think there are people involved that won't budge.

This sounds like folks need to think first what is best for the university and the basketball (and other) sports programs, and iron it out. We don't have too many billionaires in the Syracuse vicinity that are willing and able to give the program some flash and celebrity.

That’s just it. The chancellor and the board don’t think basketball and other sports programs have anything to do with what’s best for the university. People really need to get their heads around that. The chancellor’s job is not to run a professional sports franchise.

I get where your priorities are, but they don’t align with the leadership of the university, who care more about academic reputation, enrollment, and tuition based revenue. I’m not saying they don’t care about the AD, but it doesn’t rank as high in the “what’s best” category for them as it does for many of us here.

Do you think Syracuse basketball or Syracuse athletics told the media how short they were in NIL? Do you really believe that? They kept this stuff close to the vest. They didn't want anyone, rivals, media, fans to know how bad it was. How inept they were. The information just wasn't out there.
It was definitely out there...

Maybe it was harder to get exact numbers for players, but it was no secret that we did not have the money to compete at the highest level.

I said it on here many times during the summer and nobody believed me for a while.

If I was able to get that information, Waters was certainly able to as well. It's not exactly a coincidence they are writing about this stuff now.

I had no inside info other than simply watching how SU conducted itself and its transactions in and out of the portal, and I've been beating the drum since the beginning that our NIL is nowhere close to sufficient. It's been pretty obvious IMO.

It's no longer our biggest problem, but it might be the hardest problem to solve.

It is obvious you don't understand the limitations on real reporters. They don't write like they are writing
for an internet page. They have to have facts and sources to back up those facts. Most of the time, if not always, more than one source. That is why both Mike and Donna have been awarded New York sportswriters of the year awards. By not printing rumors or I think this guy got this amount but the number isn't exact. That is how they have both been inducted in to the college basketball writers Hall of Fame. They don't and quite frankly want to do what a Jackson Holtzer does. Or a internet poster. Who no one remembers when they get a post wrong.
Back in the summer, the team looked a bit different to a outsider than it does today. We had JJ and Bell back at the 2 and the 3. Both vets coming back from a 20 win team. We had Freeman, a high school AA at the 4 and he didn't come here for free. We paid 850k or so to Eddie and the coaches were claiming that Carlos was another Tyler Ennis. That team didn't appear to be the disaster that this team is. While I'm sure it did to you, by the way, what are the lottery numbers for tonight, but for someone who didn't actually see the team during the summer, maybe not so bad.

I laughed when Jackson went on Cuse Talk Radio earlier this week and said dump Autry now. I think you can really see the age and experience differences with how alot of the older media outlets and podcasters operate.

When it comes to how to pay the buyout or who to replace him with it really hasn't been thought out. The response from most people is that well we'll figure it out when we get there and it could never be as bad as it is now. Or I like this 1 coach or that other coach, all based on vibes or he had a good year. All things that in the next breathe they hammer the administration for going with Autry.

Nowhere in my post did I talk about knowing that the team was going to be this bad.

All I said was that it was clear that we did not have the money to compete at the highest level. And that was certainly apparent this summer.

Everybody knew what our goal was fundraising wise with NIL. It was not enough and it didn’t take the season to play out to know it.

Great sports drive up applications, which can help a university be more selective and/or put more butts in the seats. The AD is supposed to find itself, so the NIL shouldn’t come from the University coffers as a whole.

If you follow CBB on a national level, I will say it’s pretty easy to guestimate how much NIL a team has based on who they land in the portal. It was pretty obvious in the summer we were short on cash. You land multiple HM transfers or top MM portal guys? You have a lot of money. We landed 1 HM transfer then struck out on everyone else due to money and had to fill the roster with guys that were claimed to be ok with just room and board.

Donnie is probably the only where I was surprised on the NIL numbers for. Others around his HS ranking were claiming to be closer to $400k+.

I find it interesting that we are amongst a number of ACC schools that significantly underfunded their programs LY.

It's not a coincidence that this conference is now the worst it's been in competitiveness in the the modern era.

The prior year we had 4 high major transfers.

Only one of them had any buzz

Cuffe and Chance were injured former top 100 guys with no real playing time. McLeod was an end of the bench project.

Not exactly loading up in the portal.

So you agree that’s it’s pretty easy to tell who has NLI money based on where the transfers are from?

The issue at Syracuse has traditionally been that the University takes money other schools consider athletic revenue and reallocate it to the general fund. Concessions was a big topic years ago on this board for that reason. Additionally, I’m reasonably sure there’s people with clout who hate athletics and envision minimizing athletics as part of the pathway to becoming a near-peer to the Ivys. I know they were around 10-15 years ago.

The AD shouldn’t need a ton of support from a university administration - but an administration that didn’t create additional challenges for the AD would be a nice change of pace for Syracuse. Unlikely…but nice.

Might want to go back and look at the Westry hype. There were some who had him pegged as our future best player based on HS.

Putting eeeverything else aside with Weitsman, Waters' quote saying AW had a recruit on a plane with a "rapper" and that made them "very nervous" is so odd. Makes it sound like there was something wrong with it being a rapper specifically. Like some other type of celebrity would be less of an issue? Interesting phrasing Mike.
spot on. If it had been a violinist from the NY philharmonic, or some other artist that Kent likes like Wayne Newton everything would have been fine. God forbid it was one of those black gang member rappers...

I’d be scared as caca to be on a plane w Wayne newton and a violin

Do you actually know that Kent likes Wayne Newton? Maybe it's Lee Greenwood or Kenny Chesney.

Syracuse University is lagging behind in the real world in regards to College sports.
bla bla bla...
Now we have a willing mega donor chased off campus. He is literally being recruited to other Universities as a donor! Miami for 1.
Miami is basically offerring to bend over backwards and inviting AW to make themselves his b!!!h.

The guy is real...say what you want but he is not a bad guy and has no bad intentions.
SU would be beyond dumb to chase him further off. We should be rolling the red, or orange, carpet out for him.

Yay Lally! No need to crap talk, its not a good look.

Good job turning a positive into a negative, dick. Classic old fashioned ignorance.
That response was no better than elementary social media bullying.
~'Thank you so much for the compliment, Not to toot my own horn -toot toot- but Im glad Im not the only one that realizes that I am so much better than those other fake donors-~

Coming from a successful man of his stature, that statement is ridiculous.----childish----

While I want to agree with you here, I unfortunately have first hand experience of a reporter with a Syracuse degree reporting rumors as facts and threatening the careers of good people for attention for a very reputable broadcast news outlet. It’s frightening how common it’s become. I do agree that Mike and Donna are not that type.

Thanks for chiming in AW. Literally AW has been running his mouth the entire time and zero pushback. The first time someone dares to challenge him and Lally’s the bad guy? Please. Some of you have such axes to grind with the university that you will do and say anything to throw the school under the bus.
