Where was MCW?**

Based on what??? It's nice to be a casual fan, and think he will be fine, and we will contend for an NC again next year. But aside for taking advantage of a demoralized St John's glorified high school team, MCW really hasn't done squat.

OBVIOUSLY, JB doesn't trust his game against quality competition. MCW has had the better part of a year to show us something, and he hasn't shown us anything.

If Dion leaves, next year we are in serious trouble at PG - gruesomely weak. Triche is not a PG.

Compunding the problem is that we have no PG coming in next year, and none worth while is available.

We better hope a JUCO PG is available who has a solid handle and can play D. Or else we will not contend for an NC. Period.

He's a freshman, for god's sake.

I don't think I've seen Jim run that fast or get out on the court that far in a while. He was none to pleased with his defense. MCW gave it back a bit and that was the end of his night. There was an assistant coach between them for that timeout so MCW would stop arguing.

Yeah, it really was a minor meltdown; Hopkins and McNamara both restrained him. Williams and Boeheim were going back and forth through the whole timeout. Boeheim kept talking to him as play continued, more calmly and with and arm around him.

It was a little surprising, given the kid's usual even keel. He looked a lot more like McCroskey or Dion out there for about 45 seconds.

Blown out of proportion. You could see Boeheim coaching him on the bench and pointing out his mistakes with how Triche, Scoop & Dion play at the top.

It's not blown out of proportion when 2 coaches have to grab and restrain you.

We will have 2 very good PG's next season. Not concerned at all.

Bees, I would agree. Although, granted I had a distant view, the "incident" caused quite a stir in the section I was in. It looked more than words being exchanged ... and it is significant when Hoppy has to grab and restrain a kid... words don't result in restraint. Bad... very, very bad.

But, very much to JB's credit, after the timeout he made MCW sit next to him and he put his arm around him and talked to him a couple more minutes. JB loves the kid and knows he'll be a star. He doesn't want to lose him mentally.

He is this years whipping boy, we all now JB has one player every year that is treated differently then others. This couldn't be further from the truth; one has to wonder if you even watch these games.

At 6:19, Connecticut got an outlet to Boatright off a made Syracuse basket. Williams ran alongside him, didn't stop the ball, and Boatright got a quick layup. This was the exact situation that earned Williams an immediate hook in the Pittsburgh game. Boeheim yelled.

The next defensive trip, Williams drifted into the lane and didn't step up to challenge Boatright coming off a screen. Open three at 5:05. Boeheim got more animated.

As Boatright saved a missed Joseph jumper, Williams turned to jog upcourt with his back to the ball. Boatright regained his dribble, passed upcourt to Napier (past Williams, whose back was to the action), who got into the lane and found Oriakhi for a dunk at 4:34 (as Williams was just getting to the free-throw line). Boeheim went berserk.

Every coach who scouts Syracuse knows that our transition defense can be exploited when the young guy is out there. This is common knowledge. Connecticut scored on three straight possessions (two that became transition only because Mike didn't stop the ball) because he missed something. I don't know why you're peddling this alternate reality on here; it doesn't jibe with what the rest of us (and Boeheim) saw on the court.

whoa gentlemen and ladies...what are you talking about...first, JB usually selects an individual who can become a star...KJ, Melo, Waiters etc over the year and let them know when they made a mistake or did not live up to his expectations. He believes that MCW will be his PG of the future and expects a lot of him.
Take note, JB believes BT is a terrific player but does not do what JB wants...be assertive, take more shots, take over the game...so he sits him for very long periods of time...usually BT then snaps out of it and has a good game or two following.

JB doesnt waste his breath on average players...he drives to light a fire under the players he believes are going to be great. By the way, this is how it works in corporate america also...the really good workers and execs are pushed to do better...JB has been able to do this with his players...MCW will recover and take what JB says to heart...please stop the whining oh poor MCW.

Let me summarize: MCW is a potential serial killer now that he's been yelled at. Next year he will stink when he isn't an All-American and we will be 1-25 as a result. Triche doesn't care about his teammates because he didn't jump up and down when they did and Noel isn't coming here because JB yelled at his pal MCW and he looked bored, too.

Perhaps being a few steps inside the halfcourt line with your back turned as the other team blows by you is a recent change that JB has made to the 2-3.

I love the reaction here every time JB lights into one of the players. My guess is JB is twice as hard on these guys in practice as he is in the games. But you really think they can't take getting yelled at by their coach??

Usually when you finish reading the thread about how JB has incorrectly handled a situation like this you can then find a thread about how JB instills no discipline in his players, never sits them when they make mistakes and generally doesn't bother to do any coaching.

Can't agree more.

It doesn't have to be all roses and sunshine, but level of misery of certain people here is astounding. Every single player on this year's team has a thread over the last two years where they have been written off.

And yet here we are, 25-1. Just had two good wins against our biggest rivals, and one of those games was never on doubt even when uconn cut the less to 2. And people here are blowing up any minor thing because they need something to bitch about.

I have no clue where this ride is going to end, but its been so much fun.

And for the one genius discounting MCW's play against sju, I hope you stick around this place for a while but i imagine once MCW proves to be one of our best point guards ever, you'll disappear. You'll vanish like the guy a couple seasons ago who asked and argued that Andy Rautins was the most overrated player in Syracuse history.

Fine if you want to ignore reality. You may continue to hope, because that is the only thing upon which to base your opinion. We won't accomplish much if MCW plays 30-35 minutes at PG next year. Maybe that is good enough for you. And your ad hominem attack only serves to underscore your baseless opinion.

If JB had NO confidence in MCW. Or he thought he couldn't contribute, then he would have gotten zero, that is no, nil, nada court time against Uconn or ANY of the other BE teams. And as evidence of that look how much Mookie played last year during preseaon and the BE season. MCW is way a head and JB knows that.
