Though the season is still more than 6 months away (and Edouard is headed to JUCO ball:bang:), I'm curious who everyone believes should take the reigns of the program at QB, in Tim Lester's offense.

Hunt- Most Experience, Best runner, Senior

Long- Some Experience, Decent Legs, Accurate Passer, Potential 3-Year Starter

Dungey- New kid, Fresh Start, Height Advantage, Decent Legs, Potential 4-Year Starter

Wilson- Arm Strength, Pocket Passer, Potential 3-Year Starter

Reply for any other possibilities.

Hunt starts and Long is the backup.

Next question.
Yeah definitely believe Hunt gets the nod, but most people I've talked to find it counter-productive to go back to him, for one or more reasons. I'm not one of them, definitely believe he should be the guy next year and if he struggles, its Long, IMO.

Leaving out Dungey who should red shirt, I think we will have a repeat of last year. Hunt, Wilson and Long in that order. Hunt, with all of his challenges, gives us the best chance to win. Wilson will probably fit Lester's system better than AJ. I like Long, but I am afraid he is just not big enough, fast enough or possesses enough arm strength.

I certainly could be wrong, but I think Shafer is not very comfortable with anything but a pro-style system. He gave the spread a chance and decided to go back to basics.

whover gives the team the best chance to make a bowl game should be the guy next year which is likely Hunt

Pretty much would have been Hunt anyway if he hadn't gotten hurt, so roll the dice and start with him. After seeing Rak's improvement from last year to this, I think it's possible that we can see similar improvement in Hunt with respect to pocket awareness and passing touch next year.

all that time spent in coaching booth at end of the season has to pay off you would think

I'm hoping Hunt can claw us back in to a bowl game while Long red shirts and O'Korn sits his transfer year, and then it's game on.

If he can't, Long is the guy.

Wilson will be #3. Long is your #2 - unless they want to redshirt him.

I am assuming that they will red shirt him. The problem that reared its ugly head last year was that the offense was built around Hunt and when he went down, Wilson, a pocket passer, was ill suited to the zone read and called QB runs that were designed for Hunt. If Lester is going to his heavy formation style it would seem a pocket passer would be well suited for that style. If O'Korn comes and is the favorite to start in 2016, a lot of plays will have to be designed for a pocket passer. That could change some things.

I don't think you can assume anything based on formation. Lester was running with the QB out of 12 personnel at Elmhurst when he had a running QB.

I also think AJ was as good a pocket passer as Wilson showed.

Agreed, but O'Korn is not a dual threat so I have to wonder. At Elmhurst Lester ran on a large majority of plays becasue he had that great back.

I don't know how you can say that about AJ. I thought he was a terrible pocket passer. He was a turnover machine. He was better at play action. Wilson has the far better arm than AJ. In the limited time we had to compare the two arm strength was clearly on different levels.

If Lester has a system he prefers it seems to me that he needs to stick to it and either play a dual threat or a pro style and not waste time. We have enough trouble running one type.

Don't get me wrong, I am certainly at the point that I am for anything that seems to work. I realize that he is stuck with Wilson who he would not have recruited, which is why I don't see how O'Korn would fit in.

Don't be fooled by O'Korn's Pro Style label, the kid can run pretty decently.

How often do you see a kid redshirt after playing the season prior? I agree it would be in Long's best interest if he isn't starting, but I would still be surprised to see it.

How often do you see a team play four QBs?

I could see AJ getting a RS next year unless he really puts on some muscle. Hunts starts for sure

I'm not sold on Hunt and I don't know if he really is the starter next year. It reminds me of Nunes' senior year. He could be the back up. This new system plays to the strengths of a pocket passer. I think Wilson may have the advantage.
