Many are saying Marrone has to go. Name someone who would do better.

Really think about it too. Don't just throw out a name.

Think about if that person can recruit New York state. Especially NYC. Could he have locked up Jarron Jones and Ishaq Williams? Can he recruit Georgia and Florida? We're gonna need too in the ACC.

What type of offense will he install, and what coaches will he hire/fire?

Will he run a clean program?

Will he care about the university and city? Or will he just use us as a stepping stone?

Will he make an immediate impact, or will we have to wait to see improvement.

Does he bring baggage?

Finally, can they do these things better and faster than Marrone has?

Ummmm...good question. Promote Scott Shafer? We wouldnt lose him then...and can you imagine the team this year without him?!?!? Scary! He has been worth more wins than Marrone has...easily.

I like shafer as well. Syracuse doesnt have the money or the program to afford a CEO type as head coach. We need our head coach to control and be brilliant on one side of the ball. Doug was supposed to be the OC genius. At this point he has been a very good administrator but a really poor OC and please dont feed me the bullshit that he isnt running the O. With Shafer our D would always be solid allowing Scott to hire a hot shot OC. Question would any other college or NFL team hire doug as OC? Question would any other college or NFL team hire Shaf as DC? who gets more job offers?

don't know who but you can't promote from within that is foolish and doesn't solve anything

Doug isn't going anywhere yet anyway. It's a silly debate to have now. But a collapse this year and no bowl next year then yeah he is toast.

On a serious note, it has to be a "name" guy. We might have to spend more than we ever have or want to, but a guy like Leach, SUmlin etc.. isn't going to come cheap. I could care less that whoever it is will only use this job as a springboard to something bigger. Just get us on the right road.

Right...let's get a big name coach with money we don't have. Makes sense! Now to find more irrational posts...

well "big name" is a relative term. Big name like Urban Meyer, of course not. Big Name in terms of SU's level, not a crazy notion. The move to the ACC brings all the money and is a big deal. Unless you want to accept the fact we are the new DUKE of ACC Football and are and will forever be a bottom feeder who isn't going to try, then the only move is to spend a little more than we have spent in the past and get a bigger name guy in.

But this is all silly as Doug isn't going anywhere yet. He has a year or two before a change it made I feel.

We probably wouldn't have to break the bank to get a Leach (given his situation) or a guy like Sumlin. But yeah, let's play the cheapskate game and settle for mediocrity...again. Makes even more sense!

Time to play big boy football!

We don't need a "big name" coach. We need a promising, young, up-and-coming coach has either been very successful as (a) an innovative offensive mind at the college level, or (b) a recruiter on the east coast.

We're in the ACC now. We didn't have that security when looking for coaches in December of '08. There are talented individuals out there who can be our Mike Gundy.

Butch Davis. I hear he's available

Jim Tressel.

Start investing in orange sweeter vests

Sometimes when I watch our offense I think they should promote little ol' OttointheGrotto over here, cuz video games.

Thats dumb. we have the money by borrowing against the ACC revenues that will be coming. A fun/good team will also bring more folks to the dome and that revenue alone would cover the cost of an extra coach.

Marrone continues to keep the fans away and he is losing and he isnt recruiting worth .

Also, Syracuse University is sitting on a staggering sum of money in their endowment fund. The money to bring Bear Bryant back from the dead and hire as coach is there and would be a drop in the bucket compared to that overall sum, the university just doesn't choose to use the endowment that way.

Whenever it gets reported that a University doesn't have the money to do something that is just out and out not true. The money's there, just not allocated for whatever that something is.

SU could infuse the football program with cash. I'm not saying that's something they should do, but there is an account that could be drawn from.

Agree. Anyone who thinks we can't pay a coach like a Miami or Kansas or a school like that is kidding themselves. Should we? Maybe, Maybe Not. Different debate. Can we...hell yeah!

Doug makes I believe $1.1 mill (or in that ballpark). The head coaches at Duke, SMU, Iowa St, Fresno, UCF all make more. Some of those schools aren't even in BCS conferences. I'm not saying SU needs to spend SEC type money on a coach. That is silly. But to be in the $1.5-$2 mill range a year for a head coach is not crazy in the year 2011. It really isn't.

Tim Green has proven that he can recruit and win!! I have to believe that SU has better facilities too.

Doug Marrone, Jr. in 35 years.

While I think this thread is premature I think Marrone has to work some serious magic to scratch and claw and some how get one more win. It's amazing how a 6-6 season with a bowl game can keep these whispers at bay. However, if he can't get another win it's going to be hard to keep the masses silent when you start the season a shaky 5-2 just to finish with 5 straight ugly losses and no bowl game and only 1 conference win in a sh1tty ass conference.

With that said ... my vote for coach would be Bill Cowher ... let me dream.

That is a part of it. It would be one thing if we were losing to an SEC schedule, but... we're not.
