seriously, that was like watching Paul Harris and Josh Wright milk a lead. The only thing we shouldn't do in the final 2 minutes was foul them, and yet there was Dion, Scoop and Triche all doing their part stopping the clock and putting the best FT shooting team in the tournament at the line. Ficking brutal.

We deserved to lose that game. Fair and Joseph should make sure James gets laid every night for the rest of the semester after he bailed their asses out today. Hey Kris...guess what, the next game might be your last, how bout a little fire there buddy.

Its survive and advance, but that was a freaking 99-car derailment I just watched. I have ZERO confidence that we don't get bushwhacked by K State. If we struggle to score against those muppets, K State might hold us under 45.

I was having a meltdown watching us foul, what the were we thinking. I couldnt believe the chat room wasnt explodign like me, that Triche and Dion foul was HORRENDOUS. Thank god Scoop made his FT's.

Scoop didn't want the ball at the end... He must not be too confident in his FT shooting... Forced us to struggle against the press...

How about throwing the ball away TWICE on in bounds plays at the end. First the terrible cross court pass by Scoop. Then the bullet off Triche that luckily the zebras blew. Only way to lose up 8 was to turn it over and we came close to letting them back in. Hope they got the gunk out of their systems.

I'm never thrilled to see CJ inbounding the ball. He always seems a tad nervous. Nevertheless, it was like we were trying to not get open in hopes they would get the ball so we could foul them.

Lots of What to go around.

joseph was wide open by 20 feet on both those inbounds plays. kansas state is no better than asheville though

Come on, Jake. You didn't earn the best post-to-like ratio in online sports message board history by being a Debbie Downer.

Waiters always runs away from the ball against pressure. Triche is the only one who acts like he wants the ball.

Comment I made when the Fab news hit, are KJ and Scoop the leaders to get this team through tough times.

This is Syracuse basketball. We can beat anybody on any given day and we can lose to anybody. If we go out and beat K State by 25, I wouldn't be surprised. If we lose by 25, I wouldn't be surprised by that either. This is why I will not, under any circumstances EVER put money on a Syracuse game.

Does anyone know the track record of #1 seeds who struggled to beat the #16? I don't; I'd feel better if a bunch of them made the final four or something.

You don't think it says something bad that we struggled to beat one of the worst teams in the tournament? I know it's survive and advance, but it doesn't make me feel good about our chances. (Also, I don't think anyone says style points dont matter when they win by 30). I also think its even more important in a situation like this, where we don't have all the pieces we did that got us to 31-2.

I saw a graphic yesterday showing the tourney results for all the 1s who've struggled against 16s - it was very much a mixed bag - two that come to mind were Purdue '96 who lost their next game and then Duke '86 who went on to the final game.

Props to the team for making their FTs when it counted, though. Rak had a decent game. Too bad he bricked that dunk.

@BrentAxeMedia: RT @ESPNStatsInfo Syracuse: 12th 1-seed to beat 16-seed by single digits; 4 of previous 11 lost next game & only 3 reached Final Four[/quote]

While you are correct that additional points are not awarded to teams based upon aesthetically pleasing plays, it is a generally accepted viewpoint that margin of victory is indeed a reliable indicator of the true strength of a team:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/17/sports/ncaabasketball/17score.html

And a #1 seed beating the #16 seed team by only 7 points is not something that occurs often (statistics from an article giving advice about filling out your bracket prior to last year's tournament):

"Don't pick a No. 1 seed to lose its first game. In the past 26 years, since the field expanded to 64 teams, No. 1 seeds are 104-0 against No. 16s, and rarely are the games close. In the past four tourneys, not only have all but one of the 16 such meetings been decided by 16 points or more, but the average margin of victory for the No. 1s has been 29.3 points (14 of the 16 games have been decided by 20 or more). The last time a 1-versus-16 game was decided by single digits was 1997."

Yeah. So not so good, though 3 of 11 did make the final four. Anyone know how often the #1 makes the final four in general?
