Whoa! First draft of Marrone's email

The McDonald error was so avoidable.

This could be year four instead of coming off of 7-17
Agreed, the path we're on now is the path we should have started on a loooooooong time ago. Part of the damage McDonald inflicted is that I think he soured a lot of people. He had the right concept I think, but was the wrong person to execute it and botched it up pretty good.

Babers will heal the fan base. I'm confident of that. I still can't believe how this has worked out sometimes. It seems too... right.

Are you two almost agreeing with each other?

Mass hysteria, dogs and cats, sleeping together.

The line about punting from the 35 is some of my best work ever, so your post stings a little bit.

I jest. I linked back to this in the other thread because CuseOnly asked about it. I wrote it originally because at the time people were freaking out and I felt it could help some fans to have some levity about the situation. I mean, Marrone somewhat out of the blue left after the most exciting season of football we'd had since the McNabb years. Marrone did a ton to pull us out of the dumpster, it looked like we were on the way up, and the guy we thought was in his dream job disappeared. That's part of our history too.

I remembered your post and laughed, even being a HCDM supporter, but that laugh occurred over 3 years ago. It's just not funny anymore bringing up drudgery like this over and over again. What's the point? If folks on this board continue to get their jollies over crap that happened long ago then ok. I should not have replied prior to getting my coffee and starting my day at work - my bad - nuff said.

This is really in poor taste bringing old stuff up like this now. It's not even the least bit funny anymore.

People we need to move on. We are now 2 coaches, 5 years past the Marrone era. He did his job by bringing us out of the dark age of the Greg Robinson era (I was there for every Grob game CuseOnly - were you?). I think Marrone hit his ceiling and at best would be an 8-9 win coach in the ACC. He is a pro coach, not a college coach.

In my opinion, Babers has no ceiling so let's turn the page and focus on the future and not the past. I am so positive about the future of SU football after meeting and talking to Coach Babers I don't want to even think anymore about the last 4 coaches...Babers is special and if he stays here long enough I expect him to be another Coach Ben or Mac and to compete for another national championship.

Posts like this are a waste of time and are irritating. I don't even know why I even clicked on the thread or responded to this nonsense...going to get some coffee to brighten my day...

Couldn't disagree more, it's stinkin hilarious.

Funny is Funny.

Yes I did ask for you to bring it up and I stand by my decision, read it again and it still cracks me up. Excellent work!

People need to lighten up and laugh at not only this but themselves a bit. Good gravy.

I'm sorry it affected your day. If someone asks somebody to link back to something because they liked it, I feel like that person should probably do that.

Coach Babers just got done talking about the unbelievable tradition here at Syracuse , how it is up there with some of the greatest programs. Doug Marrone play offensive line for coach Mac . He played in the '84 game where we beat Nebraska in one of the greatest games in SU history. He took the program out of the sewer and made respectable. And of course any coach who gives his heart and soul would deeply respect that and I'm sure Dino does.

Correct, he spoke about the tradition we used to have. The school has all over it with retiring 44, changing the name, bi-annual uniform changes, and looking like an arena league team. But hey, we have some statues and a giant plastic tarp jersey in the Dome to remind us of what we used to have.

What does this even mean ? It is still the history of the program , it's all we got , man , and it's enough.

That history of the program has been disconnected from the current program. The university has pissed on that continuity. Name one tradition that's carried on. Orangemen? Nope. 44? Nope. Jerseys? Nope. We look like an arena team with a bastardized version of our nickname without the greatest recruiting tool and tradition we've ever had.

I don't think I'm alone in the feeling that no matter how we play on the field, the Syracuse football traditions that were built up over decades have been buried. Coach Babers can talk about them all he wants, but they're gone, and the university is to blame.

Kinda see your point, but you're probably overstating things a bunch. We did just put up 3 statues, 44 is trumpeted out whenever they can, Floyd Little was/is on staff, etc.

The nickname thing? I mean cmon. It's not what we'd all like but it's hardly the issue you're making it.

It's kinda of like Thanksgiving. We don't have Martha Stewart's ostentatious feast , but we got the family.

And we've decided to eat meatloaf instead of turkey, it's been moved to March, and instead we're calling it Indigenous Remembrance Day.

Or it's just not the way Momma made it in 1985, you couldn't get together on Thursday but Sunday was free, and it doesn't matter what you call it because all your family is there

And no matter what, we're all dressed up like clowns.
