Whoever is going to the lunch today...

At the lunch today, I asked Doug "Why, Doug, WHY?!"

He responded with a smirk and said "Just...wait...until...2012...then 2013."

He then tipped his visor and strode off.

Then I realized I was in Baltimore and hallucinating.
So your that rambling guy who asked like every question??!!?!

I honestly wonder how confident he is about his 2012 squad ... I have heard a few say that Marrone feels it will be damn good.
That would be true..although I don't think he would say anything otherwise...

We have 21 committed but that is including Smallwood, Broyld and Davis who count against 2011 correct? That literally means we don't know about 7 commits ... is that right or am I missing something?

Smallwood, Broyld and Davis could count towards last year just as long as they enroll in January.

There are 18 commits for 2012 that we know about. I don't know how many more kids are unannounced, but it doesn't have to be as many as 7.

Depending on how many underclassmen are returning, there may not be room for a full 25. There are 65 kids with eligibility remaining who could return. Some of those are 4th year players who could take their degrees. Sales and Miller are both question marks.

When the seniors get announced before the Cinci game, I'll have a better idea who's graduating and who's returning.

I'm pretty sure we'll be able to take 25.

Couldn't we take 28 if there are RS seniors not being asked back, as rumored?

we can take as many as 25 + whatever can be backdated to last year.

Assuming that Sales returns and Miller doesn't, we're at 66.

If you want to take 28 recruits, we have to be at 57. Allport's not coming back (concussions). I can see Kimmel and Lowrey moving on.

There would have to be some more housecleaning.

Maybe some kids could be delayed until January 2013.

Because a 2 yard gain between the two playcalls gobbles up a minute plus of time. This is all about shortening the game because they don't trust any one thing.
Marrone and I go to the same baber shop. I've been lucky enough to be there twice when Doug was there. He is completely different...far less formal. The last time we crossed paths was prior to the WV game. Doug was joking that he wished the coaching staff could play against WVU because most were stars at their respective colleges. I've heard him mention more than once that the talent level isn't where it needs to be and they game plan accordingly. I honestly believe that the way we dominated WVU completely surprised DM...I think he knew we could win the game but blowing them out came as a complete shocker. Hence, all the post-game talk about managing wins is just as difficult as managing losses. As we know, DM is not one to throw players under the bus publically, but in these less formal settings it's much easier to read between the lines of his comments.

I guess my point is...this is not a talented group. Many of the recent recruits that possess talent need time to develop...especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully guys like Trudo and Hickey, et al are ready to step-up. I have nothing against Nassib but I'd really like for one of the young "playmaker-style" QB's to push him for the starting job next year and I'm praying we land a RB with break-away ability. This offense needs a huge infusion of excitement.

I agree with much of your statement, the talent to beat USC isn't there, the talent to win 2 of the following 4 games is.. Rutgers, Lville, UCONN, USF. Reasonable expectation is to be 4-3, or at worst 3-4 in the Big East. Is that reasonable? If we win the next 2, then I would say Marrone has met miniumum expectations. The talent excuse needs to be monitored and kept in check, sure certain teams present issues but the talent in certain games isn't a problem

Agree. Going 2-5 vs this crap BE is unacceptable. Hell I would question going 2-5 in the top heavy ACC as well. We have 9 games this year vs teams with similar talent. Six of those nine are home games. We are currently 3-4 with two games left. Going 4-5 would be a disappointment. Going 3-6 is totally unacceptable.

None of us who attended the lunch can give a report regarding statements made by Coach Marrone but things are being addressed by the coaching staff and I quote, "We will win the next two games."
