We have an abundance at forward this year (even if we are not using them all) and next year, but the year after is what's important to think about and why they are so important.
Let's say we don't lose Woody or Bras this year, next year will also be a tough because they could have 4 forwards ahead of them if Marek comes back (not sure he will). With this year being an extra year, Woody would be a soph and Bras would be a redshirt junior for the 22/23 season, if I'm not mistaken. If they have the patience, they could potentially be our starting forwards in 2 years with Woody having 3 years remaining (4 if he red shirts) and Bras with 2. They will be seasoned by then, have time in the program and a clear understanding of what Coach is looking for. I'm seeing some KrisJo and JSouth potential with these two long term.
I know their first impulse may be to go elsewhere, but we will lose Griffin, Q (if he stays), potentially Williams and Marek (if he comes back). This is the stability some posters have mentioned that we need to build back into the program and why I think it's very important that the coaches are explaining the big picture and keeping them engaged. Having an 18 year old son, I know that can be like talking to a block of cheese sometimes, but I think these two are worth it.
I think the same rationale applies to Edwards and Frank, just happens a year earlier if they can hang in there, this is a free year. I mean you gotta love Franks's energy just watching him on the sideline! I think there's more potential here then we give these guys credit for. I hope John Bol stays just for his positive energy on the team, kid has a great smile and always seems to celebrate his teammates.
Also, no matter what we think we see out there, we DON'T know the conversations the coaches may be having with them regarding long term plans. Hopefully they are having those.
