“But you watch the game and you are hard pressed to find a play where we drove past anyone…” um, hello, Judah was penetrating into the lane regularly in the second half. He’s a very athletic and skilled player. Symir can drive into the lane too, but didn’t do that for 3/4 of the game. Yes, Joe is slow and less athletic for a P5 2-guard. I’ll give you that. The small forward options we have right not are athletic players, but they’re FRESHMAN. It takes time (not 2 games) to adjust and learn the game at the college level. Q and Taylor and maybe even Bell could develop and become good with some time. My main criticism of JB is that he went into the season thinking he could rely on freshman at the small forward spot instead of pounding the portal for a high level transfer forward who can attack the rim and make jump shots. They were out there but we never even tried. Lots of posters have pointed this out, and apparently Autry and Griff thought we needed to do that but were ignored. You can be athletic without playing athletic.
But you watch the game and you are hard pressed to find a play where we drove past anyone, get out on the break and run by people.. we dont outjump anybody.
We have a bunch of guys in the 6-7 ish body but then they struggle to guard guys who slower but play the game faster.
They're not allowed to be athletic in that zone. At least in the first game they played man and some pressure D which gave them some transition.
Benny and Jesse are athletic for their positions
