Why Does SU Women's Basketball not get more support and media coverage?

So yesterday I was contacted by one of the sports reporters about something else. We were messaging back and forth. At the end, I mentioned that I was going to be in Las Vegas for the Thanksgiving tournament, and was anyone from the paper going to be there. The response was that they get a very low rate of views for women's basketball and it does not justify spending the money to send someone there.
So make sure you all read any stories about women's basketball, over, and over, and over, and tell all of your friends to click on the stories also.
Wonder if Syracuse.com articles linked to websites being read on sites like here, don’t count as clicks for the source newspaper site? In other words does only accessing the articles directly on Syracuse.com count?

Sorta like being a Rutgers football fan? ;)

I am going to guess they can only do analytics from their own site.

Interesting article regarding the WNBA and media coverage. Hmm - seems counterintuitive to complain and then not grant access for coverage. Wonder how and why this attitude evolved.

I have been told that for big games, there will be a designated student section for women's basketball games for the first time ever!
Hope they show up! Would be great.

It’s kind of like retail. There are certain products you have to sell. Some products virtually no one buys but you have to sell. Those products don’t get advertised, don’t get prime real estate in the store, because there is no ROI.
You’ll never see wegmans advertise hemorrhoid cream, and stock them in bulk on a main aisle end cap.
What’s the cost of a social media presence? We’re in the top worst 5 and there is absolutely zero reason for that.

I support Syracuse Women's basketball and have travelled to see more Women's games in the past 5 years, than men's basketball games. Having said that, I wonder why the fan support for the women is what it is? The media coverage borders on high school basketball in some states that I have lived in. There should be tons of articles
on recruiting, and the status of the team in the same way there is for the Men's Program! Coach Jack has done an outstanding job taking over after the trauma and drama of the previous coach. Syracuse Women play an exciting brand of basketball and have one of the best players in all of Women's College Basketball in D. Fair!
The Women's game is growing by leaps and bounds. I live in South Carolina. Dawn Staley and the Women's Program is so popular, you can't even get a ticket to see a game. Now, would be a great time for the Syracuse Community to Show Syracuse women's basketball some love and go out and support the team! Go to some games, bring your family and friends. I am going to call out the Media as well...Start writing some articles about Syracuse Women's basketball. We want to know as much about the Women's team as we do about the Men's team.
Partly it is market saturation, sports fans only have so much time and money to go round. I know I personally follow them on TV but only occasionally go to their games. I have season tix for footbal and mens BB, that pretty much maxs me out for in person attendance.

I will be travelling to Las Vegas on Thanksgiving day to see them. My 4th time travelling to Vegas for the SU women since 2015...
I just got back from Vegas and South Point Casino. Their arena which usually holds western events is quite nice. I stayed across the street at the Grand View. It should be a good trip for you.

I was at a tournament at South Point a few years ago, but stayed on the strip. That time, I had driven up and had my car with me. This time, I'm flying and will mostly hang out there.

Stay away from the strip, it is set up for a formula one car race, traffic is a nightmare because of the race set up.

But the race will be over when I am there. I assume it will be deconstructed?

No it will take weeks at a minimum to deconstruct everything, there is the race course intself, plus grandstands for fans, temporary bridges over the race course, and more. Race ends 11/18/23 for this year not possible, in my opinion, to clear everything by 11/24/23. They were still completing it when I was there from 10/14 thru 10/28. All is normal near South Point however.
Locals told me that there is a ten year contract for doing this race.

Think it was in Traina's Thoughts on SI or maybe the Athletic - women's hoop championship outdrew the World Series final game. Women's college hoops momentum is real, for Cuse women I think it is the victim of limited dollars to go around.

The best bet for coverage and articles on WBB and the other Olympic Sports are Citrus TV and the DO.
Citrus TV does a pretty good job. You can follow them on Twitter/X @citrustvsports and also their individual beat reporters.
