Why I Think Uniforms Matter To Some of Us

Is that what this thread is about? In all seriousness, I don't care if we wear a dick on the top of our helmets this year like some sort of erotic unicorn. I'm much more concerned with the product on the field than what they are wearing. If I cared that much I'd have 800 posts on the Burberry forum.

Hey now... this thread just got interesting.

I think we should wear..ah forget it.

Based on that article I expect Syracuse will have a rotation of 5 helmets. Chrome Orange, Orange, Blue, White, Gray, 4 top jerseys combinations Orange, Blue, White, Gray, and 4 pants combinations Orange, Blue, White, Gray. While I am not a fan of the gray garbage I am not upset and am glad Syracuse football is joining the 21st century in college football uniforms. All I wanted was an Orange top, but I am glad we are going modern.

USC? I can't think of any changes they've made. The helmet decal has stayed the same, no fancy piping on the uniforms the same rich colors.

Some other schools that have remained relatively unchanged are Ohio St, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan State, Texas and LSU.

OSU has been had a bunch of alternates, I think they busted one out for their last bowl game. Same with UNC, UGA and LSU. I think Nebraska has played in all blacks.

EVERY SINGLE schools except USC and Penn State from a BCS conference in the past 10 years has worn a different jersey at least 1 time. Syracuse is NOT USC or Penn State we can afford to be a little to be a little liberal in the wearing an Orange jersey.

There aren't going to be 5 helmets. It's going to be Orange, Chrome, and Gray and maybe this year's helmet will be in there as well. No white helmet.

I have a lot of friends who are college football fans but not Syracuse fans. They all know what the traditional Syracuse uniform looks like.

It is a brand, it is very well known. There is no question it has been damaged with all the changes made during the Dr Gross era. You are correct, many young fans have no idea with the Syracuse standard uniforms are anymore.

To me, the uniforms Minnesota wore for the Texas Bowl were an abomination. The colors didn't even coordinate; it looked like they forgot their uniforms and had to borrow tops from one team and bottoms from another.

I don't want to see Syracuse do what so many other programs have done; throw away their traditions and history to be edgy. At this point, so many schools have done this that the way to stand out is to NOT do it.

Please note that I am not against change completely. If changing the color of the blue used (making it metallic, etc) gets our kids excited, do it. If a metallic hue for the helmet gets kids going, go for it. But remember that the 3 colors for Syracuse are blue, orange and white and remember that orange is our primary color.

Nike has a lot of ugly gray material they want to impose on every program in the country. IMHO, it looks awful across the board, but it looks especially awful in conjunction with orange, blue and white.

Nike wants to make it easy on their designers and force Syracuse into the same standard duct type uniform scheme they use for all their schools. I say make them do their jobs the proper way and design uniforms for SU using our real school colors.

I am convinced there is a compromise out there where Nike can design uniforms that college football fans will recognize as Syracuse but will also be something Syracuse players will be excited and proud to wear. That is the direction I want us to go for uniforms.

I am all for giving the players what they want - so long as it is Orange, blue and white. Gray! What is up with that - what designer or kid gets excited about freakin gray?!!

Gray is not hard-nosed.

Maybe not hard-nosed, but totally bad-ass...
