1. We were able to run the offense faster in Dino's first season with one offseason of learning the scheme and our best reciever not even having a full offseason to learn it than we can this year with the whole team, short of true freshman, having multiple offseasons and season(s) to learn it together?

2. We could throw a billion short passes to Philips that year to move the chains and minimize pressure on ED, despite every team knowing we only threw to two guys that year, but we can't throw those passes this year despite having more options?

3. Zack Mahoney looked more comfortable running the offense that first year than Devito does this year?

4. Our up tempo offense doesn't know how to run a two minute drill? Should they not be better at it than any other type of offense we've ever had?

ACC coaches and their staffs are good and took some of that stuff away.

Wasn’t there a criticism of TD, before he even stepped on campus, that he was great in practice and camps but had trouble in games? I thought I remembered reading this but discounted it at the time as just pessimism and negativity, but now I’m wondering...and wondering why. It’s like an anti-Allen Iverson kind of scenario. Or, maybe it’s just like Iverson alluded: TD is great in practice...but, yeah, we’re talking about practice.

Maybe I'm misremembering but didn't TD do OK in a few games last year?

Wasn’t Lewis our OC back then?
Bingo. I think a lot of it was Sean Lewis. Even last year, I thought the playcalling on offense took a nosedive, and I suspect SL was much more creative and better at using the weapons that we had (such as they were) than whatever cabal is currently resurrecting the Pasqualoni [run-run-pass] philosophy.

He has talent no doubt. It is worrisome though that he has looked bad in 7 of the 10 games he has played.
That said a broad statement, he has had bad plays and has looked bad at longer moments, but often in the same game has looked great and some of the bad things aren't entirely on him.

But the folks here focus on the bad with intense night vision and turn their head and shield their eyes from the light of the good stuff.

I’m standing behind Board Rule #1 on this.

Absolutely. My comment was not to slam TD. It was a legitimate question. Also, last year’s good games were with him coming off the bench, and that can be a different psychologic mind set than starting.
I am still hopeful, but a little concerned and puzzled by his and the team’s performance to date.

How many players are seeing their first consistent game action as the solidified number 1 at their position on offense? (I’m really asking because I don’t know)

I'm OK with criticizing TD and wondering about the effect of starting vs. coming off the bench. My point was that he's demonstrated he's not an "only in practice" guy.

1- We had better O-Line play, and teams were unfamiliar with our system. ED still had the ability to improvise and mask a lot of the leaky line. Eric's ability to avoid pressure, and extend plays is sorely missed.
I think the tempo is a result of positive yards, and first downs. It's hard to get into the tempo when you are constantly running for 1 yard on first down.

2- I'm wondering the same thing...no idea why.

3- The Sheriff looked more comfy, because he was. I believe our line ranks 128th in sacks allowed if I'm to believe a previous posting. If the Sheriff was under that much pressure, he's look uncomfortable as well.

4- It seems communication among the WR's and QB is off this year. I've seen countless brief meetings between QB and WR's following a botched play. The body language of those meetings implies they aren't on the same page. I imagine that the problem is only amplified with the pressure of a 2 minute offense.

Just hunches.

I remember this as well and it came from a respected poster. This has been in the back of my mind with his struggles this year.

Yep. The Officer put up 61 vs. Pitt Dino’s first year. Too bad the defense couldn’t stop anything.

No...Co-OC with Lynch.

My guess is that because Lynch coached the OLine he was the defacto run game coordinator. Lewis I'd bet though did the heavy lifting. I say that because there are things we did those years that we're not doing anymore with Lewis gone. And we should be - like throwing a billion short passes to our fast little guys to move the chains and minimize pressure. These things are completely absent right now. Have we run a jet sweep?

I think we have run one I thought I remember us doing it against maybe Maryland but I could be wrong.

We didn't do those things last year?

Rarely and we rarely motion or use counters or pretty much anything smart offenses do.

We did but not as much as when erv played. Now not at all. Makes no sense whatsoever especially when they are blitzing us so much and them are supposed to be our hot reads.
