WHY IS WILSON THE QB???

Mahoney with a nice 8 yard pass on a 10 yard route. That pass might explain why Mahoney did not come in for Dungey. Basically we don't have a backup QB so we better pray for Dungey to return or burn Cullpepper's redshirt year.
Was just about to post the same thing.

Mystery solved. Mahoney still throws the ball short.
Yeah, I know Wilson isn't very good, but I just don't get what people see in Mahoney. The kid runs the option ok, but last I checked we don't run a lot of option plays anymore. He can't make many throws over 10 yards. He played well against some big boys last year, but again, it wasn't because of his arm.

Mahoney has proven he is a gamer and Wilson has proven he is not in previous years.

Perhaps Wilson was put in over Mahoney because Wilson is 225 pounds and Mahoney is 206. Maybe HCDB thought Wilson would be better able to take the pounding . Thus, helping to insure that we would be down no more than one QB instead of possibly two. It wouldn't surprise me if I'm all wet, but if I'm correct then maybe Babers had already seen enough after 9 minutes of quarter one to know that we were not going to win this game, With the Wolfpack looming, Mahoney stays perfectly healthy just in case, plus Wilson got to play in the atmosphere of his life.

No way Dino gives up in the 1st quarter. No way.

The painful truth is we don't have any good backup QB's.

Way. The talent gap was huge in some areas today. I think Dino played the long game today. Live to fight another day. Beat the Wolfpack, get to 5 wins.

I believe both statements are true. Culpepper may be but preserving the redshirt is important.

The only problem with a possible Dino strategy to "save" Mahoney is that Mahoney isn't very good. I love The Officer as much as the next guy but is Dino really sacrificing Wilson to protect a guy whose throws generally fall short of their intended receiver?

If Dungey is toast so are we. There isn't another viable QB on the roster to win us 2 more games

i think mahoney can, but would require a change in philosophy, and creativity. i maybe wrong, but i feel that the team responds better to him.they seem to have some semblance of confidence, with him . the big negative is there would be no LONG ball, and negates the impact of our receivers threat. he is basically an option guy.
the problem i see is the penalties and confusion still pervasive on the offense.given the lack of a run game, we have very few alternatives, which basically leaves us with a short passing game, screens etc.

I thought Wilson looked ok passing. Clemson knows SU and Wilson can't run and had their ears pinned back and he made 1 bad throw in a very hostile environment.

If Wilson is a better QB then why doesn't he make the depth chart each week? He hasn't cracked the two deep once this year.

He threw 2 picks and ALSO had several other bad throws.

What I see in Mahoney is a kid who tries to make a play, isn't scared despite his limitations with arm strength and accuracy. His teammates love him and rally behind him. Its the opposite with Wilson. He has no emotion, when his first read is not there, he has no clue what to do after. He's like a deer in headlights. This is after 4 years of playing college ball and playing in some big games. I dont think Mahoney is great either. We have to hope Dungey gets through the season and Culpepper and Devito is ready to go next year.

There's a reason why we made a play for a couple of grad transfer QB's.

You've gotta be kidding me? The first QB I've ever seen that they picked up 2 intentional grounding flags because there was no pressure.

I think we need to calibrate here a bit as well folks...most schools are
not going 2 deep for guys that are going to come in and post points on a Clemson...agree Mahoney>Wilson but even with the heart of a competitor Mahoney has, he wasn't going to move the chains yesterday on this team to make a difference. Not saying anyone was saying that but I trust what Babers is did there. I think he knew game was over and he put in the guy who he does not view as game impacting with the remaining schedule. If Dungey AND Mahoney went down, HCDB would be in a tough spot rest of year. While Mahoney isn't Dungy, he could probably play Pitt/NC St competitive...Go Cuse!
