Why no McLeod at all?

We saw what happened when we committed to Lampkin and Davis.

McLeod being in the bench gave Lemoyne a ton of easy layups, many of which would have been prevented with McLeod out there. Freeman needs to get quicker to rotate into help defense, but he isn't supposed to be playing center!

If you know that your getting at best 100 minutes out of him this year why has him last night.

He's in Sidibe territory.

4/5 spots are set with Lamp Freeman and Davis. Not sure why anyone would question that part of the roster. Maybe some McCleod if he's feeling it and the other team has a 7 footer.

As opposed to the circus act every other big looked like on defense?
Fair lol.

Lampkin had issues with guarding screens and keeping up with smaller players so the solution is to put someone in who moves worse? Interesting.
Take out a slow big guy who can't block shots and replace him with a big slow guy who had the best shotblocking season out of every player in the NCAA last year?

Sure, I'd do that.

Not when you are also considering what has to happen on the other side too.

I think McLeod would have been able to receive the lob and dunk quite easily over the team whose biggest player was 7 inches shorter and 45 pounds lighter.

Lampkin is a much better offensive player, but we scored 86 while having a terrible 3 point shooting effort. Offense wasn't our problem.

We also gave up a ton of points to a tiny team, with far too many coming from points in the paint.

Red said in his presser that he wanted to make Lemoyne a two point team... I bet he didn't want them shooting 70 freaking percent on 2 point shots because we didn't even try to challenge most of their layups.

McLeod getting a DNP was a major coaching fail.

Sure, McLeod has been hurt most of his SU stint, but Red and the staff have done an awful job of using McLeod on the offensive end. FSU knew to lob it up to him. We can’t figure it out whatsoever. Puzzling…

Where are you getting the stat about best shot blocking season?

Block% from Sports reference.

He had a top25 season all time since they started keeping track of the stat. Because of his injury, McLeod didn't have enough possessions to qualify for the leaderboard, but would have been number one if they counted him.

Edit: I'm not finding it and I'm having trouble duplicating my work. Sports reference is giving me trouble loading.

This really surprises me. When I see him out there I’m always thinking how he doesn’t get off his feet very well or get into position to block shots. When you’re 7’4” you don’t have to jump that high I know, but I am still very surprised by that stat.

We’re going to need some minutes from him. Donnie is not a good shot blocker and Lampkin is the worst defensive center in the country. Not trying to be funny… we used to have guys like grant and fair that would compliment a shot blocking center. Now, yikes…

This is something they should be working on. If our 7-footer can’t guard the opponent’s 6’8” center on the perimeter, make that shrimp defend McLeod in the post. We have a table-setting PG and the rest of the guys pass pretty well. McLeod should have a handful of oop attempts, and see which is more efficient—their ‘center’ from 3 or our CENTER at the rim. If we don’t have a player who can take advantage of that physical mismatch, either we shouldn’t have that player or we shouldn’t have the staff that signed/trains him.

That was a too harsh, black and white take, but it’s the kind of thing a Shaq or Barkley would say, right? What’s the point of having a 7’4” center? Not a frosh—a guy who came from another ACC program, and started for us last year. If he can’t beat up on a small Le Moyne team, when would he be effective? The guy put up numbers against Jesse, and that was two years ago.

I think Freeman was just late all game long.

He actually had a couple nice efforts, one great block that was invalidated by a Starling foul, and another that was a goaltending.

He's no Etan Thomas, McLeod or Jeremy McNeil, but I think he can at least be Hakim Warrick, Baye Moussa Keita or even Christmas given a little more experience.

He's got the physical skills, he needs to get used to the game speed at this level and figure out the rotations.
