- Because they are Notre Dame and we aren’t. Oh, we’ve had a pretty good record vs. the Golden Domers over the years, (3-3), but we’ve caught them at the right times. Those six Notre Dame teams had combined records of 34 wins and 30 losses. They were coached by Jesse Harper, Joe Kuharich, Hugh Devore, Tyrone Willingham and Charley Weis, not Rockne, Leahy, Parseghian or Holtz. Now they are coached by Brian Kelly, a guys who has won big wherever he went and had them in the national championship game two years ago. This year’s team may be on their way back to that game, or at least the playoff. Kelly looks more like he belongs in that latter group of coaches than the former. We will be playing a national title contender - and they won’t.
- Our quarterback is a runner who can pass- a little. Theirs is a passer who can run. There’s a big difference. Golston can pick apart our defense. Hunt can pick apart our offense.
- That injury to Morgan worries me. It’s tough to take on a heavyweight when you aren’t full strength. Broyld? To be honest, I wonder if we aren’t better off with a more legitimate receiver in his spot. But he has been our #1 target since the beginning of last year.
- Can we score against them? Their defense is ranked 24th in country, giving up 315 yards a game. If we have trouble scoring with 589 yards, how much scoring are we going to do with 315?
- In three games, we’ve had one listless effort against Villanova and one error-prone game vs. Maryland. I expect full effort but if Hunt continues turning the ball over and throwing behind or over receivers, we hard going to have a hard time staying in this one.
- And if we do and it comes down to place-kicking, we have no idea what we’ve got.
