Well, you have a Patriot level coach, a position coach and another MAC coach. That does not resonate as power five coaches. I’m just saying he’s going to have a lot of explaining to do. All three are major risks at a time that SU can’t get it wrong.
It appears to me there are a bunch of posters who are going to whine and complain about the candidates we are looking at and reject every one of them. No matter what.
And offer nothing as far as alternatIves.
I get it. I fell in love with the idea of having Mullen as our HC. It would have been great. Props to John, who apparently did everything he could possibly do to make it happen.
But it didn’t.
We can‘t just shut the football program down. We have to find someone. None of these guys are perfect but we live in an imperfect world. Rarely do we have the opportunity to address a problem with a perfect solution.
It is time to get over the disappointment of the Mullen affair, and move forward now.
Mississippi State has way more money to spend than we do and they just hired an OC with no HC experience.
Experienced highly successful P5 level head coaches are few and far in between. Most schools, including us, have to make due with someone who is not quite where they would ideally be when they are hired.
The known candidates have weaknesses for sure, but also great positives. I bet at least one of these three candidates rumored to be the finalists is going to end up being a very good HC.
The question is, which one is it?
If I had to bet, it would be on Candle. I expect Indiana is going to grab him. If they offer him, he would be foolish not to take that offer. Surprised he has lasted this long without getting snapped up by a P5 school.
Whoever we pick, I am sure we will will watch what the other finalists do over the next 5 years with great interest.
