I sure he could sue the NCAA to get that changed! Everyone else is!he has to wait until the transfer portal opens again

I’d bet on it
Absolutely this stuff is pregamed earlier and earlier each year that passes by. I posted earlier in a basketball recruitment thread about a shooting guard that was committed/signed to St John's that was released from his signing and decommitted. South Florida and Bryan Hodgson offered this player. That's all I know. This particular situation most likely means nothing, perhaps he is signing on with another coach and school. Point is, if a coach knows he is leaving and where they are going they are are for sure already working behind the scenes getting the roster in order for the new place for next season (if it's a higher level resourced program, getting higher level players that they have good relationships that would sign on to play for them at a higher level program) because even if they were staying they would be working on that for the current school. The new guy will know he is the guy long before mid March and will be working on the roster, staff and NIL long before SU announces anything official. The hire and the timing of the announcement will not coincide. That should be "fun" for the Board.
Are we though? We're in great shape for where athletics were 10 years ago but now? I think Axe hit it on the head. This isn't the same world that WH was hired for.The next AD, whomever that shall be, will inherit a department that’s on much, much, much firmer footing than what John walked into 10 years ago.
Not every coaching hire works out. College athletics is rife with scandal and drama. Even the best ADs have to appease boosters, boards, influential alumni, and internal politics.
John did right by his beloved Alma Mater.
The facility changes alone are astounding from what we had 10 years ago. Lots and lots of money raised to accomplish what hadn’t been done over multiple decades.I'll be honest, I never saw Wildhack as particularly good at his job. But the bar set by Darryl Gross was so low, almost anyone could clear it.
Yeah, I think this is potentially a real big loss. The facility changes alone are astounding from what we had 10 years ago. Lots and lots of money raised to accomplish what hadn’t been done over multiple decades.
Would he retire without a good person waiting in the wings? He clearly loves the university so barring a health problem I cant image he would've made this move without some sort of succession plan, right?Yeah, I think this is potentially a real big loss.
I’d bet on itSeems to make sense, especially if Haynie is the next Chancellor.
Likely has no impact whatsoever. What will this mean for Syracuse football ? Will this help the NIL and getting more money to get better players?
Wildhack did a commendable job at a private university in upstate NY with limited resources.I'll be honest, I never saw Wildhack as particularly good at his job. But the bar set by Darryl Gross was so low, almost anyone could clear it.
Well he’s a former Vet, so the guy at army will be strong candidateWith Mike haynie as the new chancellor I know he’s a really big sports guy, wonder if he also has some contacts he’d reach out too.
The guy at army was a lax player here right?Well he’s a former Vet, so the guy at army will be strong candidate
What HC wants to be hired by a lame duck AD who will leave July 1? Nobody worth anything. This makes sense. Suspect the new chancellor will want their own AD. Stepping down in July facilitates that.
And John is not going to leave without hiring the new mens hoops coach.
YesThe guy at army was a lax player here right?
I think Wildhack was one of the only things the ACC honchos valued or respected about Syracuse.Yeah, I think this is potentially a real big loss.
Not hire a clearly unqualified candidate in Red.Wildhack did a commendable job at a private university in upstate NY with limited resources.
Based on that, what would you have liked to see him do better?
If they view themselves as a top candidate and are confident in themselves, I am not sure that would stop them from taking the job. What HC wants to be hired by a lame duck AD who will leave July 1? Nobody worth anything.
Top candidates will want to be hired by the new AD who will support them.
Some personalities don't mesh. Certainly don't want that to be the case with a new AD and a new BB Coach. If they view themselves as a top candidate and are confident in themselves, I am not sure that would stop them from taking the job.
