AD Wildhack presser on SU lacrosse and other things: Wildhack on with Brent Axe on the barometer of Syracuse lacrosse: No. 1 we want to be one of the elite programs in the country. The game has changed in the last 10 years remarkably. Different in terms of participation and where you recruit.

We want to be one of the elite programs in the country. We want to win the ACC. Our objective is to get in the tournament and when you're in the tournament go as far as you can. ... We were really young this year. I think our future is good.

Sounds like he is not making any changes immediately but has let Desko know expectations. Probably correct not to worry too much as Desko knows how to win and has a good, young team. If he can recruit a couple elite players, the team will go all the way.

Hes basically saying that hes glad no other ACC schools are firing on all cylinders so at least we are competitive in our league, there's no problem that generational talents who historically would have played to us are going down the road to play for Marr, the boring style of play and refusal to run and non stop subbing is OK, tournament underachievement doesn't matter, and the wheels will have to totally come off for any change to happen. We haven't been Syracuse in a while and the Gaits and Powell's have as much relevance to recruits as Jim Brown does.

Hire a NA coach IMO. Nanticoke and the Thompsons would have been good for a few titles if we kept them away from Albany.

My understanding was that Admissions kept the Thompsons out, not Desko. Is that not so?

Maryland has kinda been what we used to be, certainly relative to the last decade and tournament relevance. 7 out of the last 8 years now they've advanced to championship weekend. As much as the game has changed remarkably (per Wildhack) they somehow have still been able to maintain superiority...although, only 1 title.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz...don’t let facts get in the way of your rediculous rant...Thompson’s 0 final fours at Albany and Marr just made his first final four but hey SU would’ve won all those titles had they come here.

Urban legend
Actually, Dave Rahme (late of the P-S), who used to post here occasionally and had connections to the SU program, said he was told one of the Thompsons (not all), could not meet SU's admission requirements.

Sorry man its difficult to watch tournament games after we are eliminated and not get angry getting sick of it not to mention missing having the most exciting player which was a fixture for a long time. Albany is still an America East school don't think comparing the programs works just lamenting losing high end talent to them. Marr's kid didn't even consider Albany good enough for him.

Or, because he didn't feel comfortable playing for his father, for whatever reason. Or, because he wanted a JHU education.

That is true - sorta. The one Thompson who could not meet the admission standard was Haina who was expected to go to Syracuse with Jerome (they were in the same grade after Jerome got held back in 6th grade). Wasn’t able to graduate OCC and this never gained D1 eligibility.

Actually, those of us well connected to Lafayette would disagree. Qualified and both wanted to get out of Nedrow.

Quitting OCC so he could spend time with his girlfriend might have something to do with it.

It was covered in the PBS documentary.

SU's academics are in another galaxy compared to Maryland's. They've been the "maid of honor" 11 times and have won twice. We've won 5 times in 9 appearances in the championship game (with all the losses in OT :(). I wouldn't trade positions right now with them for anything. And I don't think I'm the only UVa fan who would say that.

And Danowski's kid didn't even consider Hofstra good enough for him. (But that was probably true.)

At the end of your playing days , you want a good education , a diploma from the best school possible and you want to have established friendships and a network with connections.

I heard the same.

You're a friendly foe, and quite diplomatic. However, the truth is, UM at College Park national ranking for 2018 according to US News & World Report is 61, that is the same as Syracuse University. So, unfortunately, they're a peer school relative to academics. Now, your school truly is in another galaxy at 25.
