Will we ever be good again?!

I know there are a 'ton' of reasons why we are below average. The facilities, the $$, the Dome, the fans, the town's economics, etc etc. But Cusefan's post is exactly why I feel we are struggling. I know ppl love Marrone, and he's the exact opposite of our last coach, in that he doesn't show his emotions, plays a calm, in control coach. And it's just too easy to want the exact opposite when the current is doing ...

But I feel like you see a lot of younger coaches with just this unexplainable energy behind them. They sweat the love of the program, the love of their players and the game through their skin. And it spills over to the players. Add in that they (for the most part) play an exciting style of fb... and it works.

Now this is just me, but the weight room would be nice, but it's the style of play, and the coach, that would get me to want to win and play for a program. Similar to our bball program, before the melo center. How often do our recruits say they love the style of play? Well in fb, do we ever hear that? Not to mention our two biggest, or should be, our 2 biggest recruiting tools --- the Dome and the fast pace'd turf, and the former O-coordinator of the high tempo Saints, are somehow not encorporated into that style...

With so many issues, I feel you have to make the play exciting, to lure the exciting players, when our facilities, fans, etc are not quite there.

Marrone- have you ever seen my big fat Greek wedding rememeber how the parents keep calling the other parents toast. Well that is Marrone. I own my own company and have young adults working for me. Kids these days need to be motivated and when a coach is talking about is bologna sandwiches that's not cutting the mustard. Excuse the pun. Look at the winning coaches; Kelly, Saban, Myers, ... They are spit fires and are constantly pushing their guys. Conley may not have been a recruiter but that guy bleeds orange and was jumping around and getting after the guys. That's what we need.

Play calling- sorry boys this is all on Marrone. No offensive line but yet we run a small back up the middle 8 plays in a row for ten yards. We play in the dome and yes we don't have the players now but we need to run a high octane offense. Our line breaks down all the time. I know this is taboo but why not run a few option plays to keep the guys honest.

2012: Take lumps early, show progress as the season progresses, get some late season wins, create optimism for 2013. . . . .
Might happen -- and if it does it will come from small improvements in several units. The defense should be better with at least some experience at LB, depth/better size at DT, and returning CBs. Need some young RBs and WRs to grow up fast; big need to find any pass rush without Chandler.
But look, it is past time for Marrone's recruits to start having some impact. Special teams simply can't be as bad as what we had in 2011. We saw low-rated teams like Rutgers and Cincy get to bowls this year -- why not SU next year?

What? Stanford is the best school in the country. Look at its recruiting. it gets players by snapping its fingers. TCU is in recruit-rich texas. Boise has an exceptional coach.

SU isnt stanford. Upstate NY is piss poor in terms of recruiting. Our coach sucks.

SU might be good again if it finds itself a great coach, but comparing it to those three schools is silly.

Dan Hawkins did a remarkable job at Boise prior to Peterson taking over the job. Stanford has never been a school to rake in five and four star kids year in and year out due to their academic standards. How dis they recruit under Harris? Don't give me the academics angle either, because it doesn't work for Duke or Vandy.

TCU is located in a talent rich state, but that doesn't automatically equate to success. If that were the case, San Jose St and UCF would be perennial powers.

I meant by my post, and perhaps should have clarified, is that there is no excuse why Syracuse University cannot field a competitive football program. NYS is clearly greater than Idaho in terms of football talent. Other schools with relatively stricter academic standards like Stanford, Northwestern, Wake, etc have experienced success this decade. Small private non BCS schools like TCU have done well.

There are no more excuses. BTW, didn't see you touting Rubio's performance last game. How did he do?

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I suspect you are about 20 years old. You post just to hear yourself speak

Wow interesting point of view. Is that really all you can come uP with, "our coach sucks". Hate to break it to you buddy but good luck trying to lure a big time coach here.

Good ending to that post.

But yeah, if we win the 2 bunnies, lose to NW, Minny, USC, our first 4 BE games, then run off 3 straight BE wins to finish 5-7, I'll feel better about our progress on 1/1/13 than I did on 1/1/12. It won't be thrilling, but it's a better direction than 5-2 to 5-7. That 2-7 stretch won't be easy, but it won't exactly be culture shock.

And maybe those last 3 wins will be with generation next at QB. If we already had 7 losses, what would we have to lose by moving on.
