Faried comes to mind too
Of all the transfers, So far he is everything we expected and then some. I would say he’s exceeding all expectations, offensively, defensively, rebounding, hustle etc. also so many times guys who are freak athletes are kind of a wild card. He plays within himself and makes good decisions. We really are a sum of all sorts but we cannot lose Kyle - his screens and if no one stays with him it’s two steps and a dunk from the 3 point line and he defends and boards

I absolutely agree with you. We are extremely fortunate to have him!I don't think I have ever felt as good about the 5 spot on our team. Starter and back up both have game and Kyle may be our most impactful player in terms of setting a tone, athleticism and understanding a role.
His drive and dunk when Houston had the momentum and we were fumbling around was HUGE to get us back on track too.One thing that stood out to me against Houston is how effective Kyle was playing against BOTH Tugler and Cenac. He wasn't literally out there by himself, but Betsey and Kingz are both perimeter players primarily, and even White really needed Kyle to help carry the load. You could see a world of dropoff when Kyle was on the bench. Which is why he played 36 minutes.
One other point, Kyle at least twice had the ball outside the three point line on ball screens and the defender left him alone to double the shooter. Both times, Kyle took the two dribbles to the basket and dunked. I bet after that video, teams guard the ball screen differently. It will result in more open threes for our guys, or clear lines to the basket after the handoff.
Kyle is nothing short of a great player.
EDIT: Yes, I am going to keep topping this thread when I have Kyle specific thoughts.![]()
Went back and looked. Houston got blown out on Points in Paint 38-24. I went back as far as I could and couldn't find a game where that happened by that margin.Saw a Houston fan comment about whether they should be concerned about their paint game. And I’m thinking maybe not. There isn’t many other programs that have centers with the defensive positioning capability and athleticism of William Kyle.
Kyle is a pretty good passer. I think he led us in assists last night with four. Maliq is very good, but Kyle is no slouch.Height doesn’t matter if you have the wingspan, athleticism and aggression, which Kyle has plenty of. Yes, it would be great if he had 2 inches more in height but would we rather have Kyle than some of the 7 footers that we’ve had the past few years?
Kyle is Maliq with better athleticism but less passing ability.
