William Patterson transferring to Three Rivers JUCO

Man, JB really packed it in at the end..
We can probably go back to earlier pages in this thread. Patterson was a project from the start. He was the 4th string center as a freshman. Who else would have come here to sit behind three other players. You could argue the same thing with Carey, although I think Peter was more athletic and a better prospect. But he was still a project.

The way Jesse advanced, no one was going to take his starting position. Any top 100 player is going to want a path for minutes. Syracuse really didn't offer that. Even McLeod was kind of recruited as a stop gap. Except for one game against us at FSU, he didn't really offer much except for being a really tall guy in the middle. And then he got injured and we ended up starting a forward at center instead of one of our three backups.

But yes, people can blame JAB, or lay blame wherever, but we hada really good center, who unfortunately decided, or his Pop decided to seek greener pastures.

From my 2023-24 SU Basketball Preview:

I asked this question about Naheem McCloud:

With a guy this big, you wonder if he’s really a basketball player or just a big guy who was convinced to play basketball. I’d say he’s a basketball player who happens to be 7-4.

Then I discussed William Patterson:

The same question applies to William Patterson, our only high school recruit. Is he playing basketball because he’s 7-2 or is a basketball player who is 7-2? Again, I see a basketball player who is 7-2:

That’s probably what Naheem looked like in his high school tape. Strangely, like Hima, he was not rated by 247.

“Light it Up Sports” on You-Tube does an in-depth look at the centers:

Taking a Look at the 2023-24 Syracuse Centers (Naheem McLeod, Mounir Hima, Peter Carey, & Big Will)

The big question is: will an ACC-level center emerge from this group, not one of which has ever started at this level?
