WML Project: Floyd Patterson

12/16/56 Floyd Patterson. He’d just beaten Archie Moore for the heavyweight title on November 30 and become a father the same night. Arlene Francis had lost money on the result.


Floyd is the first guest. He knocked out Hurricane Jackson in his next fight on 7/29/57, in 10 rounds.

Floyd’s manager, Cus D’Amato, was on TTT on 3/24/59. Floyd comes out and identifies his manager. Floyd KO’ed Brian London in 11 rounds on 5/1/59.

Floyd was back on WML on 2/7/65, (He’s at 19:20 and it doesn’t take too long to guess him.):


H'ed lost the title to Ingemar Johanson in 1959, regaining it in 1960 but got kayoed by Sonny Liston in 1962. Liston then lost the title to Ali in 1964. Floyd had just won a big fight over a tough customer named George Chuvalo and was looking to win it back from Ali but he lost a one-sided contest he the referee stopped it in the 12th round on 11/22/65.
