Worst season in 20 years

Greg Robinson era was worse, 5 wins in 4 years, it was rough. This season is definitely pretty bad, and got a lot worse the past 4 or 5 games. Sucks for the seniors. I'm sure there will be a mass exodus this week, kinda need it to some extent though.
it was 10 wins in 4 years but who's counting

You would of course be correct. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

We had equal or worse records during these seasons.

2020
2014
2008
2007
2005
1982
1978
1976
1974
1973
1948
1947
1945
1940
1939
1936

But arguing whether one of the. Is worse than the other seems pointless. They all were historically bad seasons.

This one in particular, the feeling of hopelessness rivals the last couple GRob seasons. The team lost by 30 on average over the last 8 games.

%wise this season is among the worst of the worst.

Determined before the season or now that it’s ended. Because the teams expected to be a lot better when the season started, were not. And then we top it off getting pimp smacked by a 1 win team. I’m not sure our SOS once it’s recalculated at the end of the season is going to be that “tough”. It wasn’t an easy schedule but it wasn’t a difficult one once it was played out.

It updates as the season goes along, and FWIW it was going into today the 9th toughest schedule in the country.

Didn’t realize that. Imagine if Clemson especially and Miami had finished a little better than expected. Happy to be wrong.

I get that we lost our starting QB, and that our player analysis of the backup was wildly off base. I just can't for the life of me understand why we had nobody at QB3, QB4 and QB5. We actually started a walk-on lacrosse player... at a power-conference school, after spending millions upon millions on this sport.
Bingo

As bad as Grob was, The Akron team that beat us 42-28, (which many felt was rock bottom), would beat this team 42-10. The team that played the last eight games was the worst Syracuse team ever. Period.

Since 2003 I’ve been disappointed a lot, but this is the saddest two games back to back since I started paying attention 45 years ago.

Fran has been exposed. Wildhack can keep him as a Mack Brown type figure head but he needs to force the firing of Erob, Nixon, and O line coach at minimum.

If we return our coordinators, we are doomed. Last year was masked by four NFL players on offense, and four NFL players on defense.

I have had season tickets since 1998, prior to this year I had missed 5 home games all for weddings or child birth, this year I skipped two just because, this is the first time since 1998 I didn’t go to at least two road games, this year I didn’t go to a single one, I did this because I have never seen a coaching staff react to a common situation like a QB getting hurt so badly. Is this Grob bad, I’d argue this season was handled just as bad if not worse. Grob could never recruit the talent, but he had glimpses of team playing over their head and winning games, Lville and ND games for example. I believe this is what u get from a coach with no experience, I do believe he will get better, and he is no question recruiting better then we have ever seen, but man was this anything other then DART and I do think he is lying to himself when he says the team didn’t quite. Glad to the season is over, excited about what could be next year but my drive home from the Dome tonight I was filled with complete disgust on how the coaching staff performed after the Clemson game.

Don't get me wrong, the Robinson era was hopelessly dreadful. But we didn't look this embarrassing. (e.g., we could get the play call in on time and weren't starting a lacrosse walk-on at quarterback).
But we still sucked. Bad comes in many colors and shapes...and sizes...

It amazes me how we can have the worst offense in history for 8 straight games and people are asking for Nixon to come back.
He is a one trick pony who has to have the right QB every game in order to be effective.
I want someone who can still score points and move the ball if someone gets hurt.
If he wants to run that kind of offense he needs to be in the NFL where they have QB's like McCord on their practice squads.
We need an offense that can adjust from game to game depending on the opponents weaknesses and strengths.
He’s awful, sorry.

Robinson had 10 wins in 4 years. We were blown out by over 20 points three times in 2005 and twice in 2006. But we got blasted a lot in 2007. The last eight games this year is the worst stretch of SU games in my memory. The home blow outs to North Carolina and BC were horrendous. We started a quarterback was went 4-18 for 39 yards against Carolina and passed for 65 yards today against a BC team that had lost 10 straight. And how about that defense? This is the worst two months of SU football I have ever seen.

Yeah I threw in the towel on this season a while ago but figured we’d beat BC because… I mean have you seen that team?

i don’t care who you have on the field. After 8 weeks you should be able to figure out how to score 2 touchdowns. The second half of the season has been a complete failure on a program defining level.

I looked at Sports Reference SRS rating (not the best way to analyze of course) to compare this team to *other* past SU teams

2025 : -4.23
2020: -12.92
2005: -10.95

This team according to SRS was in the same tier as 2009 and 2016 teams
IMHO in late November this was the worse P4 team and definitely on par with a bad G6 team or slightly above average FCS team.

Cuse might have better athletes but the results were putrid. The Cuse team that lost to SMU in early October would've beat yesterday's Cuse team by 21 pts.

I have been a fan since around 2005, through all the ups and downs. Despite all the star ratings and recruiting wins, this season has been the least competitive in my memory. There were probably years with fewer wins, but this season seemed uniquely incompetent. Let's hope for brighter days ahead. Go Cuse!
Your timing was impeccable.

This 8 game stretch is historically the worst offense and defense I've ever seen from a Syracuse team ever. Back to 83 84 maybe? The quarterbacking is the worst bar none.
83 and 84 teams were not this bad. The 83 and 84 teams were inconsistent but pretty good for the most part...with an upset of #1 Nebraska and a few Top 25 victories.

The last 6 games we averaged 113.8 yards per game passing. Had we done that for the season, that would have been 133rd out of 136 nationally. Sadly we didn't have a running game either, 134.7 ypg those 6 games. The combined 248.5 ypg would have been next to last nationally, only UMass was worse.

Both coordinators failed miserably. The fact Fran thinks we need 2 more QBs means it’s the players fault, not the offensive coordinator’s fault. Which is absurd. The goal is not to lead P4 in passing yards… but to lead P4 in wins. I’d we have to run the ball to win, then that is what you better do.

SU went 6-5 in '83 and '84. The 1983 team was blown out twice, by Boomer Esiason at Maryland and the 63-0 Nebraska rout on the road. That team featured the Four Wheel Drive defense of Tim Green, Blaise Winter, Jamie Kimmel and Bill Pendock. Todd Norley and Greg Christodulu struggled at quarterback at times but they could throw the ball downfield and had All America talent compared to Filardi. I've never seen any Cuse team play as poorly on offense and defense as we did the last two months.
