Would love to see Red bring in an established ex HC next season

we won’t be UConn. Hurley came in and tore everything up and basically started over. We have the same staff in intact as we’ve had the o past few years - all guys the played here and got their coaching chops here - all under the same HC.

Why would things change? Red/GMac have spent a lot of their basketball life with JB. Some fresh ideas would be nice. Red was still coaching these guys with JB around. You could even argue most of these guys looks WORSE than last year

C’mon. This is just flat out not true.. We are playing a different offense and different defense. Recruiting has already upticked with the Straughn addition. You guys are basically insinuating that Red and JB are the same coach. Asinine.

What coach was beating two top 15 teams in his first season here 4 and 5 games into the season?
theres a difference betwen beating and getting blown out by...a lot of gradiations there...

I personally think Red should have shelter from the storm of internal pressure from the fanbase for a year or two

but at least thus far, the X's and O's have been a clear weakness. thats just facts.

I could see an addition to the staff to help with that being a potential option down the line...

Not the biggest Seth Greenberg fan, but I wonder if he’d consider, in a Martelli role. I get that it’s obv still early, but it would be nice to have someone like that helping Red really learn the HC ropes.
why would Red ever consider bringing in another bench coach. Bench coach what the H is that anyway. Some clown that does what.

Thank you. I don’t know what’s so hard for people to see…
Uh, about that, you need a muni bond ladder, Stevenson is ur guy.

hoops recommendation? Prolly want to look elsewhere.

Talk to me when Jake or General give you the thumbs up.

Cool

He sat next to a hall of fame coach for years, he knows what he’s doing.

Yeah, Boeheim had a unique style. Autry would benefit from someone outside the family.

It’s not happening, but in your world, who does he fire?

Gerry leaves to become a head coach at some place in the northeast, like Lehigh, Drexel, Siena, Bucknell, St. Peter's. One of those kinds of schools.

I'm open to a discussion about the assistants but it was just the suggestion of Greenberg that repulsed me

I think he's pretty knowledgeable, and he's a fan of the program.

We have no offense and are clueless on defense. If chaminade was a real team that could make a shot or layup, we get killed. Whatever, I guess it’s loyalty over winning. I’ll be here when everyone else is calling for a change.

Last game was against an overmatched opponent, but we executed very, very well. We passed, we moved without the ball, we held them to something like 18 points in the first half. You have to build on that.

After Wildhack is done with the football hire, it’s time to get a real basketball coach

Syracuse basketball shouldn’t be On-the Job-Training

No, this is ok. Give him a couple seasons. I hope he manages a winning record this year, and gets close to 20 next year. That would be fine.

If he fails to win 10 games in each of his first 2 years, that might be all he gets.

Give them some time to grow into new roles and build their own relationships with the players, implement their own plans. Chaminade looked like we were actually playing basketball. Let's see if they can keep that up - pass, move, share the ball, play defense - in the next 8 games. We should win at least 4, and maybe as many as 6 of them. After that, we'll know a lot more about where we are with this team.

Keeps Juwan from getting suspended

Sure, I agree with that. But even the defense in that game was bad. They missed endless layups and wide open shots that real teams make

Maybe I'm delirious, but I'm holding out hope that the combination of playing two top teams, followed by a tune-up game where they actually executed something, is what they needed to move closer to their ceiling sooner rather than later.

I hope so. I’m hopeful the chaminade game is somehow a springboard for the season

Also is Red's old boss.
But...I could swear earlier in this thread someone alluded to Red having never been exposed to other coaching styles? Do people really think Red, Gerry and AG only watched SU during the games? That they never paid attention to what the opposing team's coaches were doing? Just my opinion but I think we are much better served with Straughn whom can impact recruiting positively than a bench coach for the head coach.

In my opinion that was much more the case in the 2nd half. I thought they played well on both offense and defense in the first half. You don't hold an opponent to only 18 points on them just missing, if they are driving past you. What you remember did happen, just more in the 2nd half. That's how I remember it, anyway.

Got to agree. Assistants are usually young guys motivated to work long hours because they are trying to move up, and who can act as conduit between the head guy and the young kids on the team ... not old guys, that were barely over .500 in the places they coached and who kids are not going to have any interest in interacting or spending any time with.
