Wow... Mississippi State is #1 in both polls...

Karma punished Ole Miss/MSU with a half century of lousy football for not cooperating with desegregation in the early 60s. Their curse has officially been lifted.

I don't know if I would say that, They have a great qb, but I still think its going to be tough for them to recruit against Bama,Lsu,Auburn,A&M longterm.

And to think 2 years ago people were listing Dan Mullen as a "realistic" option for the SU head coaching job. The reasoning..."Because he knows he can never win in the SEC West".

Much of the MSU fan base wanted him gone last year as well. Now they could lose him to Florida the end of the year. Funny how that stuff works out. I like Mullen, I hope he puts his job up for auction at the end of the year and takes the most guaranteed money possible. Although, the ad and administration has stuck with him. I bet he stays.

This is why I really don't favor quick coaching changes anymore. Shafer will get a few more wins this year, stay the course, he needs 4 years

What blows my mind is that the state of Mississippi has a population of 3 million people.

That's smaller than my home state of Connecticut.

It's also a state that has split loyalties between 2 SEC schools.

And yet both MSU and Ole Miss play in 60K seat stadiums and fill them.

That may be the most impressive per capita attendance story for any sport in the country.

Crazy.

Ya I agree head coaches need 4 years. They need a chance to get their guys in their and a chance to develop them. I always felt 4 years for a HC, and he must be allowed to make an adjustment to the staff (OC/DC) if need be usually after 2 years.

They have the weight of 6 million though so that might help tip the scales a bit.

I think it's pretty cool that these two schools are doing so well, also take a look at Mississippi States OOC, now that is how you get yourself off to a good start. As long as Bama doesn't win the west I'm happy.

i wonder what proportion of the total mississippi college enrollment goes to those 2 schools. probably pretty high but i'm just guessing.

funny how you compare a portion of NY to the whole state of mississippi

maybe people from mississippi are willing to drive hours to get to a home game unlike non cnyers
True, my neighbor drives 4 hours to Oxford for Ole Miss games; I don't think it's uncommon either.

I think the NCAA needs to step in immediately and do something about the cowbells for the playoffs. Give me the sport coat, checkered shirt and tie group of Ole Miss tailgating rebels over that cicada sounding metal bell. No offense to Will Ferrell's iconic skit.

they got it going first by recruiting like mad and Mississippi is loaded with homegrown talent. The state might have more '4 star' talent in a year than NY has had in 15.

maybe.

being a private school, the cnyers are connected to it as opposed to other areas of the state who have no loyaly or affiliation to it.

id imagine being 'state' schools, at some level most people feel more loyalty.

Those schools are all basically 2 degrees of separation. How odd is it to find 2 Cuse grads married to each other...for a lot of the SEC / ACC it's odd when they aren't.

55 players on Miss State and 53 on Ole Miss are from MS. There are 23 Cuse players from NYS and a quarter are walk-ons.

I'm thinking that SU should start recruiting Mississippi out of that post!

Southern football is a different breed altogether. Love the passion.
