I think about this often. No Wildhack, no Fran.

While I agree quite a bit with this, I think this is who Fran Brown is. He recruited himself to be the head coach at Syracuse. It’s not like Wildhack called him to interview for the job. Brown made it happen.

If you talk to him or get to hear him talk, he makes you believe. That’s why he is one of the best recruiters in the country and people (kids, donors, alumni) all seem to love him.

But yes, Wildhack did give Brown a chance to interview and it did take guts to actually make that hire on Wildhack’s part.

I think about this often. No Wildhack, no Fran.

I will say Wildhack has had a lot of stuff cross his desk during his tenure, some very tough situations he has to make decisions on. He handles adversity well. A lot of people in his position would take the conservative approach when facing a tough call situation. Sometimes he does when the information he has calls for it, but he is also willing to take risks. You can’t just factor in wins and losses when evaluating the effectiveness of an AD. That matters, but I’m very impressed with his decision making. He’s done a 180 on me. I was in the club that thought he should’ve left with Dino.

And I don’t think most broke the news knowing what the result was going to be but rather had their piece ready and posted it when the false early announcements were reported as in. With the media issues and everything being crazy in that moment, everybody wants to post the result as soon as it breaks.

Going through MGOblog (UM forum) as soon as the news broke, all of a sudden Calvin was:

Gang affiliated
Not a culture fit
His personality is bad

And just like that, they analyzed his entire life and personality. He just wasn't a take.

They also felt that Jim Harbaugh was a great guy and that their sign stealing had no impact on winning that National Championship. Lots of big egos over in that state. And yes, they will rip on Russell now that he has turned his back on them.
