Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

“The two-sport star from Miami won't be an easy win over the Hurricanes, where he has serious family ties, but SU has hosted him a few times and should get a return trip in the form of an official visit.”

John Garcia Jr. also notes in this article that he expects Syracuse to land one of Hampton/Russell: “but in this era and with the momentum SU has created, we're calling the shot for the Orange to snag one of these class headliners in the coming weeks.”

Staff keeping a lot close to the vest right now. Even saw Tommy Caporale retweet a post saying “Move in silence. Not everything needs to be posted on social media”. Something is cooking….

I hope so, I’d love to feel more confident than I currently do about them landing one of Hampton/Russell.

This is interesting because if according to Garcia they are expected to land one of the two, they would have to be well positioned for both, so hell, why not both?

“The two-sport star from Miami won't be an easy win over the Hurricanes, where he has serious family ties, but SU has hosted him a few times and should get a return trip in the form of an official visit.” This is definitely interesting considering Russell said that he most likely wasn’t going to officially visit Syracuse, maybe something changed or will change?

Official or not he’s been on campus a ton. He’s also close friends with several players. He doesn’t need to visit again to commit.

Also, in that article mentions Javeion Cooper who could potentially flip to Florida.

Re: Russell…or with any of these blue chip recruits. It will be a battle to signing day. At least we’ll have a potential late OV in our pocket. Who knows what happens from now until December.

I have no idea what’s going on here, but the greatest recruitment I’ve ever been close to was Hop landing Fab Melo.

He literally told everyone close to Fab to say that he was going to L-Ville. Family, HS & AAU coaches, etc..

It’s a great strategy. Keep the heat on other schools.

Hope that’s what’s going on here, or something like it.

Remember it like it was yesterday…all media outlets (especially Louisville) saying that Fab was committing to L-Ville and Jake had the intel that we were the choice. Very memorable recruitment.

Mike Waters had the scoop for several days and was asked to hold it and he did.

What a surprise and excellent day that was when he committed.

I read that here, and told Matt McClusky, who was in sports reporting at that time. I told him it was rock solid (it was from Jake, after all), He ran with it on line. He got a lot of pushback until the news broke on bigger outlets.

I talked to Fran for like 5 min yesterday at the NIL golf tournament... and our convo ended because he got a call from Calvin's mom that he had to take. He was very happy to take the call, i can tell you that. 1 of 2 options here, it got him out of talking to me. or he was getting to close on a 5 start wr.
