Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

I talked to Fran for like 5 min yesterday at the NIL golf tournament... and our convo ended because he got a call from Calvin's mom that he had to take. He was very happy to take the call, i can tell you that. 1 of 2 options here, it got him out of talking to me. or he was getting to close on a 5 start wr.

if it maks you feel better - if he was getting out of your convo, at least it was a 5star WR and not a QB with a MAC-only offer sheet!

great anecdote. and he's not the lying type. pretty genuine dude. Hopefully she wasn't delivering bad news.

This is a recruitment that will go on till he signs / shows up. Fran will never give up. Loves this kid.

As he should. Calvin has every opportunity to be a pro level player. By all accounts he is also a great kid and one just about any coach would want to work with.

Fingers crossed that he ultimately decides to wear orange

I may have to use this line.

He showed us the phone that it was her calling.

And in his speech at dinner, both he and wildhack talked about the possibility of getting a 5 star wr this year and its because of our NIL (he was inferring that we had money - at the same time that we need to have more money - and from the heart and from businesses)

Fran's done an amazing job on the fundraising side and doesn't stop. Getting more NY state business involvement is key in keeping the NIL funds going for marketing deals while the school pays the base stuff through revenue sharing.

Both can be true! :p

Micron aside (not because it's bad, but everybody knows of that one) I have been hearing a lot more buzz of tech manufacturing and research industry making moves to the I-90 corridor, Albany to Buffalo.

given the proximity of fresh, clean water with great lakes, that whole region and rust belt is due for a full comeback eventually. it's got something that's desperately needed and the cooling technology leveraging the water is very needed.

Not to get off topic, but outside of the winters which I enjoy and aren’t really that bad now, the area has a lot of positives. Yes taxes are high but you get a lot of services here too.

My limited knowledge of NIL is highly ranked HS recruits are cheaper than portal guys. Of course there are exceptions

CNY has 3 things tech companies need:

Stable power grid.
Plenty of clean water.
Unrestricted healthcare access.

That’s why Micron chose CNY over the other finalist, Austin TX.

Fluck Albany and Buffalo. Lock the doors between Turning Stone and Tessy plastics.

Is this like Jordan's Mom negotiating his sneaker deal with Nike?

-12 with a par on a par 5. missed a couple of putts that should be makes in scrambles. but also made a couple that were pretty good distance.

there were 2 -13 and somehow a scorecard tie breaker.

Did you have a coach or player in your foursome?

Always curious if any of the players are any good hah

no one in our foursome. Fran said he drove around and met up with a couple foursomes but I am sure that was for the bigger fish.

I think only Derek Mcdonald played - i am pretty sure they said the team had some sort of workout or activity or practice or something.

A lot of the players and coaches were there for lunch and golf speech sendoff. Nick Williams and Elijah Robinson were on phones and facetimes a lot. Elijah was in good mood. Nick seemed unhappy - hope that isnt the nebraska potential flip. but i may have been reading too much into body language too.

And then a lot of players came back for dinner. and Fran made sure that most tables had at least 1 player. We had Devin Grant at ours and he was awesome.

I thought Devin Grant was great on the Authentic ACC thing. He seems like a really great addition, and a locker room leader. I am glad we landed someone of his character and caliber.

I was just going to add the same thing. He really made an impression on me. Very personable guy.

And I hope we land Calvin Russell also.
