Class of 2020 WR Chris Long (NJ) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (12/17/24)

Btw not sure this is the thread for this, but can we please play Rutgers more often? I want revenge from that Tommy terrible home loss a few years back and it’s an easy road trip in a competitive recruiting ground
YES! Alternate home field & play them annually on the closest Saturday to 9/11. Make it a tradition, an event, & give tickets out to first responders, NYPD, FDNY, etc. Every tri-state recruit invited. We should have an annual B1G opponent & Rutty makes all the sense in the world. Outside of Army-Navy, there’s not many, if any, marquee Northeast games in CFB these days. We need traditions & anything resembling a rival.

I love the idea…… this guy will come in and be our top WR when we had one of the best offenses in all of CFB. And at the same time he wouldn’t have probably played at Rutgers because you’re so loaded with talent. Rutgers will still suck next year.
You mean every year correct?

Maybe he another Meeks, but probably a depth guy. JRS did nothing but make plays when he was able to go, Pena was flat out great, Haynes flashed, Gill came on late and had a legit monster game, Hatcher showed he could get downfield and capable of making difficult catches. That’s a good start.
Agreed, he's also here 1 year, either way it's not a huge deal. If he comes in and contributes that is great. If he doesn't he's gone at the end of the year. To me, 5th year guys are fine. Big difference between an 18 year old kid versus 22-23.

We have quite a few unheralded WR's come in over the years and make a difference and if he doesn't well nobody will ever remember him. There's room for depth and some error here

Hopefully it helps. We barely got a sniff at any of the top 15 in NJ this season. I’m not sure what it does signing a non-productive player from Rutgers from the class of 2021?

Not sure why the waste of scholarship here?

Hard to say, the WR at least you get a physically put together veteran who can play specials if he doesn’t crack the rotation. Bertrand I have no idea. throwing a bone to someone playing the relationship long game in Philly?

We have some big holes we don’t seem to be addressing. C, LB, S

WRs can get hurt. A lot. Especially in a pass oriented offense like ours.

Consider our plight at WR at the end of the season.

We had Zeed still out.

Pena was banged up and playing anyway (ribs).

JRS was still playing with a bad hamstring,

Hatcher was out. Appeared to have suffered a major leg injury. Believe he did it playing special teams. Did we ever hear what his status is now?

Gill was our only WR in our regular rotation who was fully healthy. Almost had to use true frosh (Hornsby and Ross), who I assume were mostly playing scout team this year, just to have extra bodies to give guys a rest.

With the scholarship limit expanding to 105, adding an extra WR is a good idea. It would be much better to have an experienced guy who is good in the locker room and totally buys into DART available than having to bring in kids who don't really understand the playbook and what it takes to be a P4 level WR yet.

If Long was on the roster this season, he would have played in the UM game for sure. Probably a bunch of others as well.

There are 20 more scholarships in play. It is smart to address depth across the board with this to try and ensure we can field a solid team in November.

He told folks on the field after Miami game that he wanted to come back. He didnt seem like he was in a rush to transfer and given his injury, not sure he's going to get many offers.
Depending on how bad his injury is I wonder if he can play next season.
