Class of 2023 WR Johntay Cook (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (5/1/25)

I'm not gonna judge a guy too harshly for not getting on the field at Texas as an underclassman, we're talking about the school that's had Archie Manning riding the bench. This seems like a guy who needs a mental/attitude adjustment to start putting it together, hopefully he's been humbled a bit and is ready to prove people wrong.
Have to agree. Texas has been putting receivers in the league.

Forgiveness is not the same as forgetting. One can forgive a transgression, but not forget what occurred.
Of course. The record is the record. Wouldn’t need the 2nd chance if there wasn’t an original transgression.

I find it easy to allow for 2nd chances and almost root for a player more to overcome and excel.

He appeared in 7 games as a Freshman and 4 last years. He has 16 catches for under 300yds and two TDs in two yrs.

In other words he did next to nothing at Texas.

Gill had 2x receptions and yds and same Td’s as SU’s 5th receiver just last year. LQA had 4x the receptions, 2x the yds and tds last year.

He’d have to be unreal, like ACC offensive poy, 1st team all American great.
His talent makes this possible. Needs to get his head right.

They have a ton of skill position talent. This isn’t Rutgers we’re talking about lol. :D

Not to get too deep in these weeds, but Jackson Meeks didn't either before he transferred here. Same with Trishton Jackson. Amba Etta-Tawo was a little more productive but Maryland didn't weep when he left. Maybe a talented guy given opportunity in our system will put up numbers? There's only a long tradition of it.
I agree. My point was why be critical of a guy who hasn’t exploded in his first two years by comparing him to someone who also didn’t do much his first two years.

SU’s receivers didn’t have as much talent or experience as say Texas or OSU but the SU receivers as a group last year were as good as anyone in the country. We got the most out of all of them. Now was that because of McCord, Nixon, Ross Douglas, Fran Brown or a combination of all of them? And Can we they keep it going with Angeli/Collins, Nixon, Myles White and Fran Brown? I think we can.

Cook has the talent, measurables and certainly brings some confidence and an edge. Can he keep it reigned in, be detailed, accountable and focused on what he needs to without getting in trouble? I hope so. Fran should be as good as anybody in helping him to succeed.

Scoop Jardine is an all time favorite of mine, for just that reason.

Very much hoping Justus Ross-Simmons has a great year. In my humble opinion, the young man is a beast! Go Orange!!
He is big, physical, fast. From my observations JRS and Emmanual Ross are tough covers. I also really like the young kid Thomas who looks to be a Pena type player but faster. Gill and the kid from SC also look good. I think that these 5 along with the TX transfer are all solid. In addition, there are others in the room that also look good. One kid who has a chance to be a match up nightmare is the young TE Washington. 84 in the stuff i got to watch. He is an OG type player. Not bulky but seems very strong. Lean and tall looks like he has a ton of upside.

curious to see if Tremble makes the leap at TE and gives good reps this year

First play against Tenny. Run the Rob Moore Penn State '87 bomb for Johntay. He will make the offense a lot more aggressive and dynamic.
I remember that moment well. I was in HS at our homecoming game listening to Doug Logan on the radio. Had to wait for the highlights to come on later that night to actually see the play. Those were the days!

I agree with much of your post, although I'm not convinced that Thomas is faster than Pena. I have no stats to back it up. Just my opinion from stuff I've read. I'm hoping that Thomas breaks out this year as well. While digging for any speed times for Pena, I came across his Wikipedia article and it reveals that Fran Brown was his primary recruiter at Temple, where he had committed, before he flipped to the Cuse.
