Class of 2021 WR Marvin Harrison Jr (PA) Committed to Ohio State/Declares for the Draft

Depends on what he means by size … according to Wikipedia Lincoln covers 100 square miles and Syracuse 25 … accounting for the “metro” areas in population counts can cause misleading results if you aren’t counting heads within city limits only.

As for other factors … NY has multiple pro sports franchises and Nebraska has none … the entire state has two things to look forward to … Nebraska football and Warren Buffett stock picks. There is far more to do and follow living in NY it isn’t even close.
Lincoln is about 40 minutes from the suburbs of Omaha. Omaha has about 1M people in the metro area. Lincoln is similar to Syracuse a college town Lincoln and Omaha have big time college sports, AAA baseball, pro soccer, pro volleyball, college World Series and KC is about 2.5 hours away for NFL games. Lincoln is a lot closer to KC than Syracuse is to NYC. Minneapolis is close to the distance as Syracuse to NYC. Having lived both places for many years would say your comment of far more to do living in NY State is not accurate.

This is why winning 7 or 8 games once every couple years isn’t close to good enough. Hell even consistently winning 7 or 8 and kids will still be saying the same stuff in interviews “Cuse been down for a bit , but they’re looking to turn it around with the new staff”. That’s why it’s key to come out firing when we finally have the roster and schedule. 9 wins minimum and top 25 should be expectations. That should get Fran some buy in. Otherwise say we win7 or 8 with next years loaded schedule, and currently not an answer at QB. We’ll be lucky to win 6. At least if we can have a nice year to put Fran on the map this year it will buy good will with recruits. The top recruits don’t care about 7 or 8 wins and a crap bowl game. It would have been the same if we didn’t even play . The kids we want expect a different level of success that most fans don’t even think we’re capable of, let alone the super casuals. 9 wins or bust absolute minimum

If Lincoln covers 100 square miles, then I rest my case on being in the middle of nowhere :)

End of the day, we could have done much better with recruiting over the past 15-20 years if the Admin was willing to invest in the program comparable to the level of investment now, or do the work necessary to drum up this level of investment, and we could have done much better recruiting legacies had their been a coordinated effort in having a robust program for the Alumni of the football program. I'm tired of the excuses as to why things are the way they are - with Fran coming on board it's very clear we could have done better.
Time will tell I guess. They really aren’t excuses either but obstacles or challenges for a program such as Syracuse. Obstacles that many don’t want to actually acknowledge as a reality. I mean 23 years is a long time, it's not just some one off or a bad hire etc

We are just going to have to sit and wait to see if this staff can win games. Nobody actually knows at this point but it's going to become apparent very quickly but the expectations are extremely high for a first time HC with no coordinator experience. It's the right hire to try and take a huge shot though. Personally, I think it's a boom or bust type hire. Not everybody out there loves Fran Brown he isn't without his critics but then again who is.

Well apparently the folks in Syracuse have more to do because they only show when the team wins …Nebraska is a different animal. Their fans must not have any other options then to watch a 5-7 team week in and week out …

The people out there that don’t like Fran are the same ones that have accepted that Syracuse’s fate is being led by a nice guy running a mediocre program.

I don't get the issue Marvin Harrison Sr seems to have with SU. I get why Jr wouldn't want to come here based on recent results, but for his answer to be what it was, it seems maybe his dad negatively influenced his view of SU. Otherwise I don't see why he would have such a strong response regarding not considering us. Does anyone know the deets - or at least the general history - with Marvin Harrison Sr and SU?
I don't know that Marvin Sr. has a problem with SU. I think it's more that he's just cold in general. I feel like his mentality is that you do what you have to to get you where you want. I don't think he specifically influenced him away from SU. Our pitiful performance for 20 years did that.

No they are not, there is more to it than that and you know that. It's also tough to compete when the playing field is never going to be level, now more than ever. People are still blaming Buzz Shaw for god's sake

I don't take his comment to simply mean on a Friday night. Sports fans have much more variety to choose from in NY: 3 NFL teams, 2 MLB teams, 2 NHL teams, and 2 NBA teams. And that doesn't take into consideration other regional teams. When SU is bad, sports fans can easily shift their interest elsewhere. Nebraska sports fans have much less.

The critical thing is having down years, not down decades.

Practically every program not named Alabama has a down year here or there. A 6 or 7 win season sprinkled in with top 25 finishes I think is fine. We had that in the 90’s for example specially when we were going through QB transitions.

Alabama has them too. Saban has just made people forget their stumbles before he got there.

Hell they were firing coaches before they even coached a game at one point.

Nebraska fans probably top five easy as a fan base. Incredibly loyal.

Ok and? Corn unites us? Berkshire Hathaway is my homeboy? I live in SEC country I know what loyalty looks like.

Wow nasty slam on dad’s Alma mater. We get it but don’t be an A hole about it. Props to Zaire for trying to help him not be a dick. Just show some respect.
did I miss a post or did something get deleted?

Calm down there fella. Just an observation.

I am calm it’s a ridiculous counter point … glad they are loyal it keeps the program going because on the field performance isn’t doing it.

Wasn't meant as a counterpoint. It was a general observation. I made the mistake of replying to your post. Should have just added to the thread without replying to you. That way you wouldn't have gotten your underwear in a bundle.

Mine is fine you’re taking text without tone personally and so it goes.

This is only a story because people are making it into one.

Exactly.
I'm really struggling to see what the hubbub is all about. The kid spoke facts, and we've all discussed the reasons why, ad infinitum. And frankly, I don't see where the "diss" is in his comments. When and how many times in the last 2 decades, was it that we had a WR drafted in the 1st round? That's a legit question, and it certainly doesn't make him a jerk or ahole for being the reason we were an afterthought to him.
This is just so many folks trying to find reasons to be offended. JMHO

And the fraud lawsuit now includes pops. Wasn’t he investigated for shooting up Philly a while back?

Are we taking the corporation's side here?

Sadly, you make a lot of good points. I think our last first rounder was his dad. KJ was a second rounder a few years later. In the 80's Rob Moore was a first rounder in the supplemental draft and Art Monk was before him. That's pretty weak when compared to a bunch of schools. At least our first rounders don't flop. 2 out of 3 made the HOF and held NFL records at one point.
