Class of 2026 WR Messiah Hampton (NY) Verbal to Oregon

Definitely. I think it’s a mixture. For developmental types who are realistic believe in the coaches who will set them up well for life since football will stop soon. Alumni network, education and life skills still matter to those realistic parents along with getting some money now. And winning too.

Fran does a good job at recruiting high caliber kids and tries to get ones who fit into his culture. You obviously don’t get all of those.

The reality is Fran cares about winning first and foremost so he’s going to be pissed with four wins more than any recruit. And I trust that will come through to the recruits too.

But he also added Angeli so we hopefully get 8 wins vs 4. 8 with our schedule would put us in great position for 2026 and would help us close recruiting wise.
8 wins in the regular season this year, with this schedule, would be fantastic! I don't expect 8. Its certainly possible but i don't think I would say its likely. Objectively, IMHO our over/under is around 6.6 wins.

I think we have 5 brutal games, all on the road against playoff caliber teams: If we win 2 of those games that would be Fantastic!
@ Tennesee (I consider this an away game)
@ Clemson
@ Miami
@ SMU
@ ND

I think we have 2 hard games: Most likely wins is 1
vs Duke - They should have a great defense again and brought in a solid young QB in Mensah
@ GT - They are very underated and had a brutal schedule last year and still won 7 regular season games and return a very good QB in King

Then we have 3 interesting games against decent opponents which its hard to know what we'll get: I'll say 2 wins but would love 3.
vs Pitt
vs UNC
vs BC

Then 2 easy'ish games: Will win 2
vs UConn
vs Colgate

This would get us to 7 or possibly 8 wins. But that also would require winning 2 of 5 brutal games on the road.

I'd sign up for 7 wins this year and then look towards 2026 to get back to 10 or more!

WOW 2026 Looks tasty.

In UConn then vs NH, Toldeo, and Notre Dame so 4 home games...

AWAY vs BC, Pitt, UVA, UNC.
Home vs SMU, Clemson, 'Ville, Cal.

2026 is when the magic happens. been calling it for a while. and it's what we're building toward. we just need 7 or 8 wins this year and we're in pole position for some magic.

And if Fran can somehow pull out a 7 [or 8] season against this schedule, man oh man.

The future looks bright, regardless -- even if we stumble against this year's brutal schedule -- but that would be a massive statement.

Could see it anywhere from 4 wins to 8. But I never bet against Fran.

I can't see 4 wins. 5 wins is possible but i still think its a little unlikely. Most likely is 6 or 7 wins IMO. Unless we lose QB1 to injury then maybe 4 or 5.

To be clear, that's not my prediction. But I can sure "see" it as a possible outcome, if things go poorly with that schedule.

Not sure anyone has a true read on where this is going to end up tomorrow and I dont think the analysts do either.

Its probably Oregon tomorrow just due to Ross Douglas but I will never count Fran out and something crazy could happen either tomorrow or by the time signing day rolls around for sure.

Keep your eye on this one.

Agreed, I think Oregon will get his commitment tomorrow but I think they could definitely flip him at some point

To be clear, for the avoidance of doubt, notwithstanding anything in this Board to the contrary, Dasher is saying if we stink this year, it will hurt our recruiting and kill Fran’s momentum

IMHO, the answer is yes it'll likely kill some momentum, but it's happening way too early to have a lasting effect. Indeed, I expect a step back this season, but would of course welcome a good surprise showing.
Nowadays, patience is a dirty word- but the foundations for our long term, lasting success begin and end w/ HCFB. I expect any falloff will result in Fran working harder than ever.
We're a different animal w/ this guy, and one losing season will not take us back to "same old Syracuse". JMHO

The guy I know who is well connected with Oregon said the coaches expect an Oregon commit tomorrow and he’s one of their top priority’s. Syracuse coach’s felt really good about getting him the past few weeks, hopefully we full court press from now until signing day for messiah.

Im sure it doesn’t need to be said but Ross Douglas could be coaching in the NFL next year. Fran Brown isn’t going anywhere. Even if it’s not next year what’s the chances a successful position coach stays at 1 school long-term. I’m sure that is an easy and understandable sell. Going to a school bc of a position coach is not smart. Sure throw in nice NIL and a fun school like Oregon that certainly helps, but i don’t see why Douglas would make the top 3 in importance.

I don't love the theme of "he'll commit to Oregon now" and then flip to us later. I think if he commits to Oregon our chances are cooked, unless by some miracle we go 9-3 this coming season.

A lot of doom and gloom in this thread. I’m not buying it. I think he’s all Cuse!
Same here. It’s been too quiet and slow on the news front. But we all know slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Definitely also holds for Fran. Plus who else gets washed? That’s right. The Navy SEALs, frequently. So there.

So per the 247 page, I don’t think he actually officially visited Oregon this week. You would’ve thought we’ve seen the photoshoot photos from the lab by now. I thought maybe he’s saving those photos for if he committed to Oregon. Now it shows that he has an official visit to Oregon on June 20th. Analysts may not be wrong on the Oregon prediction, but they are certainly being left somewhat in the dark. Will be interesting if anyone gives more crystal balls before the announcement.

Maybe he and the staff are saving the official visit for when he commits. If they thought he’d be committing to Syracuse, why wait a week to get him up for a visit when you could get him there before he commits?
