Class of 2026 WR Messiah Hampton (NY) Verbal to Oregon

I have seen way too many posts commenting on how bad of an idea it is to follow a position coach to a school

When you’d all be thrilled if Douglas was here and Messiah committed here lol

I wonder how our WRs coming in last year felt when Douglas was their guy and he left for Oregon. Or how Fadil Diggs felt following Elijah Robinson. I’m sure that’s different though

I think the other big mistake ... transferring to a school who is quarterbacked by a kid that thus far in his career has completed just a shade over 50% of his passes. I am not impressed with Dante Moore, maybe he unlocks something this year but he will see far better defenses in the B1G than the PAC-12 and his numbers weren't all world.
i agree. i think Moore is trash

Thank God!

My thoughts. I don't blame him. Having grown up in 315 I've bounced around, lived in Oregon. Eugene is a great college town. Lanning is a good coach. Their facilities are top notch. On the flip side he will be just another guy there. There will be no big fanfare. His family will rarely see him play. If he picked cuse he would be an instant local "celebrity" being the local kid that stayed home. People still go nuts for Dajuan Coleman and he was never even able to have much of a career. There's also a good chance Ross Douglas is only in Eugene one year. All that to say, I get it, but I don't think we've seen the last of this recruitment.

He won't stand out there like he would've here, at least initially, but to say he'll be just another guy may be exaggerating a little. He'll be one of the higher ranked guys in his class, and if he is better than other WRs on the roster, he'll get plenty of attention. Will there be more competition for it? Sure, but I don't think a guy rated as high as him is afraid of that.

Kind of in the middle here. Sure he has unmistakable talent. Oregon seems to have elevated their program into the top ten pick schools where they bring in this level of talent every year. Time will tell if he can outduel the new recruits that come in after him. My thought is it won't be a 3* vs 5* comp. All bigtime kid here.

Remember, Oregon is in the Big Ten. They come to Rutgers, Maryland, OSU, Michigan, and MSU. They’re just as close as his family trying to drive to away ACC games. I’m sure he can afford plane tickets for his family. Six games ninety minutes away would be easier, but the kid made his choice and it sounds like with his parents blessing.

The kid is going to a great program. Hopefully he does well there and represents NY high school football proudly. Chances are more than 30% that we'll have another shot at him in the portal in two years. We still may land Calvin Russell. We have Ross and Hornsby on the 2nd team and and every WR in Delaware committed. Getting a group of stud WRs is not going to be a problem.

We'll see him in a year or two when coach Ross heads to the NFL. He'll have nike money in the bank and elite speed training under his belt at that point and ball out for a year before going pro
