Syracuse makes top seven for four star wide receiver Messiah Hampton with commitment date set
The top player in New York in the 2026 class Messiah Hampton is down to seven schools including Syracuse.

Made the final 7, very impressive list. With Oregon now considered the perceived favorite based on the Wiltfong crystal ball, how much work we put in during the last few weeks will be interesting. Also interesting that he didn’t close the recruitment soon after Wiltfong crystal ball 2 weeks ago.![]()

In my opinion I definitely feel like it’ll still be Oregon (just an opinion, I’m not an expert or have sources of any kind). I really hope we can land Russell though, that would be a huge get and someone I feel like we have a better chance of landing.Made the final 7, very impressive list. I would also think as well that landing Amare Gough was kind of a sign that we had moved on pursuing Hampton seriously since they both profile similarly to one another size wise. Calvin Russell is a bigger receiver than both and the pivot from Calvin would be more of a diamond in the rough larger framed track star type guy like a Gill. Might end up being the clutch recruiting move of the cycle was getting in the recruitment and landing Gough. It’s like I’m sure throughout that Hampton especially as a local receiver has had all the local love and attention. But ultimately if you drag this out long enough, we’re going to pursue someone else with a similar profile so we don’t lose your recruitment twice. Because you lose twice if you don’t have a plan B.In my opinion I definitely feel like it’ll still be Oregon (just an opinion, I’m not an expert or have sources of any kind). The staff thinks there’s still a shot but are also hedging bets that there will be a portal opportunity after year 1 or 2In my opinion I definitely feel like it’ll still be Oregon (just an opinion, I’m not an expert or have sources of any kind). Getting Calvin Russell might seriously be the biggest recruiting win in Syracuse’s entire history if Fran and company get it done.I would also think as well that landing Amare Gough was kind of a sign that we had moved on pursuing Hampton seriously since they both profile similarly to one another size wise. The staff is very extroverted as well. They don’t write off or cut contact completely with anyone unless there is any beef. They are open for friendzone type situations. The staff thinks there’s still a shot but are also hedging bets that there will be a portal opportunity after year 1 or 2
Russel has always been the guy I wanted most in the class. He’s the style of receiver I’ve wanted to watch dominate in Orange forever.Getting Calvin Russell might seriously be the biggest recruiting win in Syracuse’s entire history if Fran and company get it done.
I’m a huge fan of just getting both.
And doing so basically one week prior to announcing….Mike M. had a piece on Messiah today. It's VIP, so I won't share details, however, under Messiah's bio on the 247Sports Web site, it notes that he's officially visiting Syracuse on June 5. I still think Oregon is the favorite here, but it's a positive sign that Messiah is taking an OV to 'Cuse![]()
Shows me he has a lot of respect for the coaching staff. We never would have gotten this visit before never mind a week before commitment. Can’t fault him if he picks Oregon but it’s another crazy situation to show what Fran has done on the recruiting front. Would send a shockwave if he stays home or Russell commits. If we somehow landed both….oh boy.Mike M. had a piece on Messiah today. Oh well that is new information…. Also, looks like more updates was made to his recruiting page, some could be mistakes? Ohio State was supposed to get a visit on June 6th, that is no longer listed. Oregon was supposed to get a visit on June 13th, that is no longer listed either. Also, while interest is warm, there is no offer listed for Oregon either? Fong maybe a little premature on his crystal ball? 247 and On3 getting different info as well?Mike M. had a piece on Messiah today. Well, Messiah definitely has an offer from Oregon. It's on his X page. And yeah, there might be a little conflicting information regarding his upcoming OV schedule, but I'll roll with Mike and what's listed on 247Sports as far as a 'Cuse visit...I'm a little confused about the other visits, though lol.Oh well that is new information…. Per the article he says not taking those visits after Cuse. That makes me more optimistic…Well, Messiah definitely has an offer from Oregon. It's on his X page.
