Class of 2022 WR Omari Evans (TX) Transferred to Washington

SU appears to be a non entity for any portal kids of substance. We seem to barely be getting a sniff. We still have so many holes on defense. It seems the cost of using the portal made a significant jump this off season.

It's very curious that we seem to REALLY want to bring in a WR considering we have WR depth and other more pressing needs.
Depends on what you think you can get. If you don't think you can grab guys that fill the bigger needs, you may want to get the best players you can, regardless of position. I would love to see us get some high end pass rushers and studs on the oline, but if this is a guy that can take the top off the defense better than who we have, that can help too.

Yep that’s what I am afraid of too. I think we had to lock him down on his visit to get him. If he ended up visiting us
Some of this is natural recruiting attrition. If all a kid wants is a bag then I doubt he is the kind of DART recruit (or teammate) Fran is interested in. No idea if that is the basis for Evan's interest in T-T, but it is often the case with portal recruits. One of the reasons why Fran is not relying much on the portal at this point.

How many times, they aren’t looking to build the team through the portal, they took 35 freshmen for a reason. Maybe their assessment is they can fill spots with guys on the roster

Yeah and we’ll find out overtime if this plan works, but we had the largest HS class in country for next season way before this portal cycle even opened. So I think in terms of roster construction things are going close to almost exactly how they planned and wanted it to go.

I understand what you’re saying. I just don’t believe what’s on the roster can fill our needs. Freshman don’t come in and play major roles. We have a couple of players in last years class that may be able to play, but very little at linebacker and very little experience at cornerback. Duce was poor last year at safety and you don’t win on defense with inexperience at corner.

I would like to see several roster holes filled via the portal as well, and I believe they will, but most activity might be during the spring window and via Juco. Fran has a plan, he delayed that plan in year 1 to get momentum going for the program. No matter how difficult our schedule is in 2025, and it is brutal, he isn’t delaying the plan any longer. I think we are willing to spend some cash in the portal but when it comes to giving a bigger bag, I think that will happen mostly with retaining players and when we need a QB.

He had massive holes last season. Worked a few miracles to retain players that would have left if Dino was retained. Brought in some great players and we had a fantastic season. I think that this year with the first frosh class having time to grow up and mature he doesn't see the same need. Yes, we have some holes and hopefully we can land a couple of kids at areas of need. I'm not worried about it at all. Fran and this staff know what they are doing.

A few of the insiders I've seen have said Texas Tech or Washington…guess it’s good it’s not Tennessee.

We dont need this kid. One and done. Save the money for another position
If he could have an AET like season, and I'm not claiming he would, I'd take one and done.

Who knows but he will cost money. Yes he is good but is he better than the kids that are currently on the team? I watched some of his tape and he is a talent but i dont see an upgrade over the guys we have. I would rather reward them. Now if he had two or more years i could see giving him a shot. The only place i really concerned about is LB and i would like a lock down DB

The number of years don't matter to me. Every year is a fundraising year. We saw that with McCord. Success one year makes fundraising easier the next. It seems like there is this idea amongst fans that we can pick and choose which positions we land. That may not be the case. Regardless of what we need, if guys aren't available/interested from those position groups, it doesn't matter. If coaches think a guy is a difference maker that's better than who we have and we can afford him, bring him in. I don't care about the position. And I'm not worried about the money. That's for the staff to worry about and we know that's not a set number.

I didn’t think we needed him at all. Need corner safety and linebacker. All starter type guys.
cant have enough linemen on both sides. D/OL depth is such an underrated advantage

I agree but I think with tank back the new guy Thomas from marshal Watson Perry the bama kid and jobity we have a good line in their eyes. We run with Hornsby at center with the fresh backing up and maybe Walabaugh then Perry back at guard with maybe either Cruz on other side the kid from Howard and Walabaugh on outside with backups in Mack one of the Cruz. I’m missing someone. Our weakness spots are lb safety and corner. In my opinion.

It certainly would be a nice add but that said I feel like we have a pretty strong WR room right now which includes the transfer from South Carolina we picked up who looks promising as well.
