WR the rest of the way

I realize that. But he and ED are not on the same page. I get the 2 ints were poor throws but like 721 comstock said needs to act as a db on that 1st one and get on the same page with eric on yesterday's.

If I'm Eric I don't have much confidence in him. Consistently good not occasionally ok.
I get wanting him to act like a defensive back if he can't catch the pass, but that seems pretty bang bang to me. Can't hold it against him too much.

As for the read, at the time it looked like Butler could have had something long. It's very possible Dungey made the wrong read and throw.

Oh well. Time to move on and hope it's all just miscues that can be worked out. On to Pitt.

Butler is athletic but he still lacks consistency, grit and understanding of the WR position. I was hoping he stepped up. I even started a thread about my expectations of him. Right now, I just dont see it. He will make the occasional great catch but I dont see his production rising to #1 WR standards. I also think he was at fault on that INT. Dungey was pissed. Butler obviously got the wrong read from the defense when the ran his route.

Eric targeted him the most yesterday. He had confidence in him.

Agreed about his athletic ability but he definitely suffers from occasional brain fade. He can be dynamic with the ball in his hands.

We'll probably never know for sure, but I'm reasonably sure he made a bad read on the INT yesterday.

I’m reasonably sure Eric under threw the ball because he got rid of it too soon.

Butler is gonna surprise folks before he's done.

Ya those are the type of reads we will never know who's fault, or not even fault, but difference in what they saw.

Butler definitely has those mental lapses. Hopefully, he is improving. I thought his last 2 games were promising.

I watched the replay. Butler definitely did look for the ball. He looked UP over his right shoulder. Meaning he was looking for a ball thrown over the top. And that’s the kind of ball Eric threw. He didn’t put anything on it. He just tossed it out there, but 5 yards short. If it was some kind of read, Butler read it right cause he got behind his defender and if the ball is thrown there, it’s a foot race downfield. Eric was shaking his head on the bench, but he may have been unhappy with himself.

Those were my original thoughts. Could have been a TD too

I’m not crazy about Custis/Butler but Riley in space and the youngins makes this group serviceable. If Ravian played then I think we would’ve won. He’s very good blocking as well aside from being a great athlete.

I'm not sure, but it could have been a read that Butler was supposed to cut the deep route due to a blitz, no?

Either way, seems like a mistake we should have avoided.

It really wasn’t a “deep” route. Possible TD wasted.

Can I get something off my chest? BUTLER!

ED has2 ints both to butler in which butler doesn't fight/or even attempt for the ball. His head isn't in the game. He doesn't have it.

He won't start next year. Maybe by the end of this.

Was at the game and I watched Butler come off the field. The WR coach immediately stopped Butler and talked to him. My first thought was that Butler ran the wrong route.

Im not saying ED can't be wrong because he makes bad reads too but how do we know Butler wasnt suppose to bend his route in?

Harris is gonna be a stud. Just has a knack for getting open easily. Don’t know if it’s his quirky movements or what and he doesn’t seem faster than the other guys.

Sometimes its just about the game slowing down and making the proper reads. He ran right by that Clemson safety from the slot. Liked the matchup. We need to run more sets like that getting our wr talent in space between the numbers and stress the midfle. Let's see these young guys develop as we pick up some wins. Go Cuse!

He made a nice catch with his hands yesterday but overall hasn't showed that motor and moxy to battle for the ball like its HIS when the ball is in the air.

Agree, "brain fade " ...funny, like it:)

We don’t. I’m just basing everything off the replay.

Is that what happened yesterday?

maybe, but if thats the route design for that D then its not good design.. you dont design a pattern to change when there is no help deep or inside, you are creating a much tougher throw.

This kid is going to blow up by the end of the year. He’s like a damn gazelle

Most athletic offensive player we've had since Mike Williams. Just pure, sinewy, raw ability.

Butler played well vs Clemson.

Has anyone explained N Johnson’s minimal use? I thought for sure he’d be a difference maker vs. clemson

i dont get on that first INT why the throw would not either be deep or lead to the middle. it should never be short.
unless it was a timing/comeback route that wasn't run as such.
