WR the rest of the way

yeah, but why when you have easier options and space to throw it and you are not running a tight pattern? there was no safety to worry about
Could've been a timing route, with Dungey throwing the ball quickly expecting Butler to be in the spot.

I'm no fan of Butler, don't think Butler is starting caliber WR at all, but if they're supposed to be on the same page depending upon the 'read' then I felt like Dungey screwed it up. Butler had 1v1 coverage with no safety over the top AND had his man beat. IMO, with no safety help, the read would've been Butler long and Dungey should've thrown it long. Instead Dungey lofted a back footed floater up there that was woefully under thown - unless it was a comeback or curl (but why throw a floater then?). He lofted it like he was trying to put air under the ball. IMO it was on Dungey, poor read and poor throw.

Dungey missed a bunch of 1v1 coverage on Saturday. Heck he even missed an uncovered slot when it was like 3rd and 3. Whether those misses were on Dungey or the coaches who knows.

then he under threw it and if it was timing/comeback route why throw a floater. A curl or comeback needs to be thrown on a rope. that pass was anything but.

Yeah, I'm just watching the replay in my head, so I can't recall the exact details, but you're right. If he floted that ball, he's trying to put touch on it. You zip those short timing routes.

Ok after reviewing again. They definitely were not on the same page and I don't know who was wrong. Butler never looks back at the QB/ball until it's too late. Dungey is throwing a shorter pass on purpose (and he didn't float it as much as I originally thought). If Butler is looking back he makes the catch but maybe for a nominal gain. If ED throws it up towards the 50 instead of the 45 it 'might' go for a TD. This was a HUGE missed opp no matter what. I think ED should go long here.

The protection was outstanding and Howard with a big time block in pass protect. Give this kid more time.

6:30 mark

This is probably the 4th or 5th time this year we have had that play open and we never throw it deep or across almost always at the WR. When you clear out the safety and the WR gets the step you need to complete that pass 90% of the time.

I agree, this was a huge opportunity. Butler had single coverage without a safety up top. The thing is, not sure who, if anyone on rhus board has knowledge of the offenses terminology at the line and what this situation called for, I am guessing dino expected a deep ball with butler at least playing even with the defender with no safety help.

Problem is ED threw a route that if timed right could pin a guy in either a curl, a dig to the middle, ooooorrrrr a back shoulder throw. Thing is, looks like butler made the right read and pattern given the coverage but ED threw a weak ball off his back foot. He us vetter than THAT.

Another point, something most wont admit; ED has embarked in some serious wgt training the past few off-seasons, esp this past year. His "guns" are impressive but i think his throwing has suffered. Both his fluid action and arm strength. ED is strong and has made most of the throws his first 2 years but there isa VERY noticeable decline this year in his arm flexibility and strength. The 2 are very close and i am surprised SE let him get this big. The last time we have seen arms like ED's in cfb was Tebow and we all know he couldnt sling it at the end of the dat.
