Holy cow.

They are also a top 15 offense. But then again when you run that many plays you can't help but build up yardage.

WVU had 59 passes and only game up 2 or 3 sacks to UMd. Completed 75% of their passes.

If SU could generate 3/4 of what they did it would be a good day.

happens when you give up 2 punt returns for TDs. We ran 82 vs central michigan

WVU- Oklahoma is going to be a good one this week. Might be the same shootout as when they played in Morgantown two years ago.

Our offense should be fine against Maryland. We won't be getting the same 700 yards that WVU rolled up, but we should be able to move the ball, and score.

Just need to contain CJ Brown and force him into mistakes. He's going to look to take off often, when he's not firing deep to Diggs.

I was there for that game against Oklahoma. Tavon Austin at RB was amazing. Put the ball in his hands and watch him go. 21 carries for 344 yards and 2 TDs. 4 catches for 82 more yards. 8 kickoff returns for 146 more yards. Never seen 1 player dominate a game quite like that. Steadman Bailey with 3 TDs in the fourth quarter as well. And yet WVU still lost. Everyone there was in total awe of Austin and that WVU offense and then also absolutely shocked that Oklahoma beat WVU despite all that effort by Austin. It was unreal.

they are going to be all or nothing with holgorsen from year to year. it's gotta be so weird rooting for WVU these days, high highs low lows, strange opponents

No doubt. We're going to need a more effective containment strategy/effort than we posted against Robertson in Week 1 or CJB is going to keep our D on the field all day.

West Virginia turned the ball over 4 times and gave up at least one touchdown on special teams and still won the game To me that doesn't say much for Maryland. I'm picking SU in a relatively easy win I say SU by 14.

Dear God,
Its Saint Randy Edsall, I don't think its fair West Virginia ran 108 plays in a game. Even though its because my team's defense couldn't stop the WVU offense its not fair. I am going to open my mouth and complain for no good reason except because we lost.

Edsall needs to up I mean this guy is such a dbag when he loses. If you don't want WVU run 108 plays Edsall then stop them or let them score in 1 play and save your players from getting worn down.

Yep. That should tell us a lot about how good the Pac12 is! ;)

It was super tecmo-ish. I remember watching it, and thinking they're just pressing up and then the B button.

Edsall is such a loser

guy whining about the number of plays gave jordan todman 334 carries in 2010 and donald brown 367 carries in 2008. both guys second in the country in carries

he wasn't worried about injuries there

He really is the worst.

i think of these defenses like little kids learning to tackle barry sanders. they can practice all the time, they're never going to get a single tackle and will learn nothing

these teams would be better off if the defenses were kept totally separate and practiced against some hired gun scout team

i think that explains why the factories don't run those offenses. if you want to win every single game every year, you need to have a defense that has some will to live. you can get by with some dull offense just because of your athletes and your defense might learn something in practice

I disagree on the up and down. I think if WVU can win enough games to allow Holgorsen to keep his job (probably 6), WVU will get back to the big time fast. Holgorsen has had two problems since he came to WVU. First, no defense. Its his fault for hiring Joe Deforest, a great Special Teams Coordinator at Okie State and a close friend, to be his Defensive Coordinator. Deforest's D was epically bad. If that problem is solved, and I think they are on the right path, WVU will win a bunch of games with that offense. Watching the O in the Maryland game, I can tell you the offense is back to being a proficient machine. It will be interesting to see what they do against Oklahoma this weekend. Second, he lost a ton of talent on offense (Geno Smith, Steadman Bailey, Tavon Austin) and had a QB who was brand new to the system last year in transfer Trickett. You could see he couldn't run the system at all last year and the offense looked crappy because of it. With QBs developing behind him, I think the offense is in good shape for the future. He is still recruiting very very well. Offense good, defense improving dramatically, recruiting well. WVU has to solve the special teams issues from this week and this team is legit.
