WVU - rivalry on hold, which is a shame...

That is unreal, pathetic and sad all at the same time. Historic rivalries carry(ied) no weight in the realignment.

Surprised Texas/OU or Bama/Auburn aren't higher up in the most played rivalries.

All good things must come to an end I suppose.

Side question Hoo - what do the year's signify in your sig?

Closer to home, UNC has played Wake 105 times, and that's not every year anymore. The Wiki page on most-played rivalries cuts off at 103. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most-played_rivalries_in_NCAA_Division_I_FBS

There are a lot in the 80s and 90s. We've played VPI 95 times and it's not close to being on the page. Duke has played Ga Tech 82 years in a row.

They're MLax championships. I'm an MLax alum.

Alot of those rivalries knocked out over TV deals. It's sad to see how much change the realignments have brought. Rivalries should always take precedent over anything, and the really good ones will last, but many of the other ones will not. Capitalism, as with our economy, rules the collegiate landscape.

The irony is that those rivalry games made for great TV. OU vs Nebraska was awesome but when the Big 12 didn't even have them play each other every year was just one of the most foolish things I've seen done in conference controlled sports. WV, imo, their biggest rivals are Pitt and VT with SU a distant third. Why is it that SU just does not have that one team in our 1970's and after history?

That is the real question. IMO opinion/experience SU's biggest rival was Penn State. Their biggest rival was Pitt (another rivalry gone), not sure who it is now if they have one. SU's next biggest rival was close between Pitt, BC and WVU. Pitt had PSU and WVU ahead of SU and WVU had Pitt (VPI? Not sure it was any bigger to them than SU.) BC, similar to SU really has no other primary rival. I'm hoping SU - BC to become that rivalry. The potential is there.

Syracuses 'rivalry' is with Penn St, except Penn St doesnt aknowledge it as a rivalry...and i cant blame them.

its akin to the rivalry of the hammer v a nail.

Syracuse shot too big...ped st, and shot too small...colgate.

and got left with nothing.

shouldve been shooting at rutgers and/or boston college.

I agree with both of you, BC is the best choice with Pitt as second but SU will never touch the passion for the Panthers as WV and PSU does.

Agree with all of it but the Rutgers part. Syracuse has dominated Rutgers worse than PSU dominated us, even with Rutgers getting half their victories as a result of the GRob era. BC will probably become that rival.

Pitt and Syracuse have never been high powered simultaneously so neither has really developed the hatred a good rivalry possesses.

With Rutgers in the B1G now, would love to continue playing them. We constantly recruit the same players and we are really trying to regenerate the NJ pipeline. History aside, playing Rutgers annually makes the most sense out of all options left after WVU. We already play BC and Pitt every year.

Agreed, as much as I'd like to say the gap between us and PSU is closing quickly.

If RU is going 2-10...to...5-7 each year wouldn't it help them if they beat SU much like the past? If they are doing well then yes I agree with you but no way in hell am I for sending them a life boat with a chance for redemption in their lost seasons.

Who do we laugh at when Rutgers beats PSU?

Rutgers has no hope of great seasons again with 4 built in losses annually. Why help them? I can agree to play periodically but the annual beatings within the Big 10 will make Rutgers irrelevant.

Laugh at PSU, as the Big 10 will and everyone else will. You sit back and enjoy the fact that PSU lost to Rutgers. Probably will not happen often, hasn't happened often in the past.

You cannot cherry pick. Fan-wise, many fans of Syracuse hate Rutgers and vice-versa. I hope they do horribly in the B1G AND by playing them every year also adds a high probability win to our OOC schedule every year. Anddd we get to play in fertile recruiting grounds every other year.
