you cant be out rebounded by 20.

See we have been out-rebounded by 20 many times before and won year after year. Accept that the rebounding will likely suck, be better at everything else, and we will will games.

A few things with the rebounds this game. We had just as many fg attempts, we missed 4 more shots than Rutgers, They had 5 more turnovers than us (which means we lost 2-3 more opportunities). And the free-throw differential taken/missed/ and ones might have tacked on another 1-2 defensive rebounding opportunities in their favor.

That adds up to around 8-10 more defensive rebounding opportunities than us. Maybe not as bad as it looked. We actually outscored them in second chance points by 1, but we gave up 58% from the field the second half.

If Marek plays center we are not competitive with good teams. The other true centers that don't play ... why were they recruited then? Why is there no viable backup for Sidibe? Tired of beating this dead horse.

Why can’t we just recruit some fat dude who can bump bodies with these centers who aren’t good if you simply have someone their heft leaning on them ? Why do we always seem to have a stock pile of pipe cleaners at the position ? Do we need 4 copies of the same guy ?

that might be scary true. if they can't stop equal/better teams in he paint it puts even more pressure for the perimeter game to better. i don't know how big our opponents are the next few games, but i hope all of them are small and bad.

Pretty sure we recruit them for their senior seasons only.

Because a fat guy can't cover that corner 3. Which JBA actually contested once very well last night.

Rinse and repeat. I've said for the last 4 years that if Marek is forced to play the 5, we will not amount to much. And yet year after year, this is where we find ourselves. Why recruit big guys who cannot play worth a lick? I watch mid-majors w/ centers who move better than ours, and -gasp- actually have some meat on their bones, so yes, there are some out there to be had. How do you go into yet another season, knowing how Sidibe is a tab bit fragile, and have as a viable option and only alternative, Marek playing the backup center position? Mindboggling.

Griffin's unguarded corner fade-away with a full shot clock was awe-inspiring.
Griffin looked careless and sloppy. I don’t care how many points he had. He was useless on defense and goofy on offense.

I've been watching Syracuse basketball for many years and I think playing zone defense makes it harder to rebound, especially since the 3-pointer has become so much a part of the game. Playing man to man, you know when a shot goes up you need to turn and box out your man, but with the zone you're sort of boxing out an area so it is harder.

I watched the Big East Conference final from 1986...Orange vs. St. Johns...the other night. That was pre-3pt. implementation in NCAA basketball and it was amazing to watch how effective the zone was. They really packed it in the lane and dared Mark Jackson and others to shoot from outside. What looked strange after watching today's team's penchant for long bombs was the Orange zone was literally packed below the foul line and St. Johns rarely shot over the zone. They continued all game to try to get it inside. Absolutely, totally different game to what we have now. By the way, St. Johns trailed the whole game until they took their first lead on their last shot of the game to win by one point!

I question if the zone is still a viable defensive approach with the abundance of outside shooters we have in the game today. I also feel that this year's Orangemen would do well in man to man but I admit Jim B probably knows a little more about basketball than most of us fans.
