SU men won Saturday too so a sweep against a good team that also made nationals last year. Proud of the boys. Tragic that we can't elevate to D1 for men. As the 30k last night shows along with the dozen or more from the area playing in the NHL there is great fan support and recruiting nearby and it wouldn't take long. Just takes about $20m or so. Ariz State just did it. Raised $30m. C'mon Gross. Let's do this.

I love hockey, but spending the money to elevate it along with adding women's sports is crazy right now. Invest the money in what's needed now-like football staffing, a new Olympic weight room, reverting Manley back for track and women's hoops,and upgrades to soccer stadium/Tennity.

Worry about hockey when there is more money available. I'm sure Delaney is pushing Rutgers to do this with the promise of more tv $.

Wouldn't baseball be a better fit?

We've talked about this choice before: there are literally dozens of current and near-current NHL players with local roots. Nothing like this in baseball. Dozen of teams within an easy drive for hockey. We have no season for baseball with the weather; and few natural close rivals who play. All adds to cost (which ASU will find out for real when they start D-1 hockey). We may be in the ACC but we are in a Big10 weather area. Agreed there's no money for this, but if we had a choice, hockey it should be. BTW our club team regularly played Rutgers till a conference change.
