Thanks to Orangepassion for this link in the Zach Allen thread.

Trent Dilfer picked Allen to compete at the prestigious Elite 11 camp – he’s one of 25 finalists nationally. This is a huge honor and the benchmark for QB prospects. For the ‘star gazers’ these QB’s are usually the cream (the 4 and 5 star guys)

This link is of some of the process for naming the team and Zach’s qualities are discussed (with video) for potentially naming him to the team

Some comments about Zach Allen that popped out:

“Young Colt McCoy”
“Better arm at this stage then Colt McCoy”
“Tony Romo’s favorite QB at Dallas regional”
“All the traits that the position requires”
“does everything fast and with a purpose”
“He plays sudden”
“2nd and 3rd reaction playmaking ability”
“Dynamic athlete”
“Everything he does has urgency”
“Quick and fast mind, body, arm”
“Passer that can beat you with his legs”
“Syracuse is very lucky to have Zach Allen coming to their school”

love seeing Syracuse among the list of schools with QB commits at this event - this is as it should be.

and I'll say once again - great job Scout with your 2-star # 82 QB evaluation - chumps

It's interesting that he's ranked as the #48 pocket passer by ESPN b/c he's ranked as the #22 dual-threat QB by one of the other sites that cannot be named.

It looks like we have some really good recruiting momentum going. Hopefully we can keep it up with the 3 or 4 top kids out of NYC deciding soon. Landing an Elite 11 Finalist QB out of Texas, a nationally regarded TE/FB legacy, Two very solid looking DT's and locking down NYC for the year would be a hell of a start to this class, and that doesn't even consider what other prospects would complete the class.

If we got Laray to go with Allen, Wilson and Provo that would be far more than I expected for this class as far as play-makers are concerned. Combine that with our commits on the other side of the ball and it would probably be the best class we have had in years. Or, am I just drinking the Kool-Aid?

This is a really cool thing.

He's an early arrival, right? I'm not a big believer in starting a true freshman QB, but one that is an early enrollee and getting invites to elite camps is a lot more interesting.

That would be nice.

Yes - January enrollee.

One thing I didn't realize, he runs a 4.5 40 on top of all of that.

Which is awesome as it's less time for the big boys to press him. IIRC there is a dead period during Christmas and beginning of January. So, If Allen blows up his Senior year, then big boys have about two months to really press him to change his mind (Nov/Dec). The caveat being is that he pushes aside any pressure during the actual season.

I have a feeling this kid is going to be special. Love the fact we have Wilson coming in to push the competition, but the thought of this kid and Broyld on the same field... YIKES! If we can pull in the NYC trio, this is arguably our best class in the last 5 years, hands down.

Kid has stated emphatically that he is a solid commit to us. He's not going anywhere.

Thanks for that info, didn't know it. But you have to admit that if UT or OU or TCU starting pressing him he would be nuts not to listen and seriously consider them as an option.

Agreed... but I repeat.. he makes it a point every time he talks to a recruiting service that he's made a commitment to SU and that we are committed to having him here.. kid's a leader and those types usually don't waver.. I understand what everyone is saying about the national Texas programs, but I believe this kid when he says it because it's been published 3-4 times already that he brings this point up everytime he's spoken to a recruiting service. He's also adamant about the fact that he's trying to recruit heavily for us and that he loves the fact that this gains national exposure for the Orange..

Those schools all have QB commitments from players joining Zach at the Elite 11.

Jeeze, you guys are unreal in your relentless criticism of any site that doesn't give Syracuse the absolute benefit of the doubt. Give them time to update.

No, I don't. He did give a commitment.

He's bound to fly up those ratings given the fact that he's invited to the Elite 11. It would look bad for ESPN if a group of scouts that specifically scouted QB's had him in the Top 25 and the overall ESPN scouting didn't have him anywhere close to that.

The other inconsistency is that ESPN has him as a pro-style QB while the others have him as a dual threat. After seeing his highlight tape, he looks like more of a dual-threat QB to me.

I'm hoping Mr. Allen's verbal is rock solid. All of this coverage he is receiving could cause the Big Boys to try and flip him.

Why do these kids go to these camps after they have given their verbal anyways? Are they still looking for better offers?

is this the 1st year that there are 25 qb's at the elite 11?

trent dilfer said he graded over 1000 qb's in person. I would assume they all go to camps for improvement.

Plays sudden. Liking the sound of that.
