Given our precarious situation this year with departures and injuries lessons should be learned

We are not on solid ground with 9 players.

He may only play 8 but we need competent depth

I don’t want us going after 3 dudes who aren’t worthy of playing at Syracuse just for the sake of it. That would satisfy some naive posters here though. I’m not freaking out because like you said, things can change. And I trust the staff knows what they’re doing. (Imagine that)

The tone of their posts, and the reason I take exception, is the sense of panic. Or that having faith that things will work out means that I have blinders on. The season just ended a week ago, and we got some bad news 24 hours ago. I’m not going to freak out over this just yet.

I’m young but old enough enough to know the program will survive and thrive despite this kind of adversity. Seen it plenty before. Losing a stud player hurts, but one player isn’t going to bring down a program like Syracuse. Not even close.

The program is not in a great place. The trend is not positive. It's been one negative thing after another. Yes, the Final Four and Sweet 16's were great runs but you have to look at the big picture. We have a coach who is approaching his mid-70's. We have been a middle of the pack ACC team. Every year, we have a ton of drama, low-lighted by defections and players who are not whistling Dixie on their way out of the program. We are still on probation. We get a rare top 10 recruit and he bails. Now, that is not a direct fault of the coach but it certainly is a bad look. We were blindsided. Okay. Was the communication on point? Did our head coach communicate on a daily basis with this player? How about the Matt Moyer situation? If you think that was just about playing time, you don't know what you are talking about.

There are problems. There has been damage to the program. Things are not trending up.

Imagine if Marek leaves? Don't you and Alsacs and all the other insiders already know what he's planning to do?
He did say he’s returning second summer session to begin workouts

I find it puzzling that SU is the only P5, top ten programs of all time teams that cant find 10-12 players good enough to play in a D1 game at some point in their career.

We had a full roster last year and only 1 opening this year until crazy stuff happened.

Guys a TO from the board is a good thing. Alsacs I hear ya. Trust me. I’ve barely posted today and it’s a good thing. Therapeutic. One can only lament a thin roster, questionable talent/offensive scheme so much. Take a TO. You will thank me later!

That’s your opinion and it’s all fair.

I find it more enjoyable to have faith.

Yea, I barely posted after the DB news came out. I knew it would be a mess. Then again, I was on Twitter and that wasn't a picnic.

Is this another one of those “trust me” posts?

I’ve seen an uptick in recruiting the past few years and it’s been pretty good. We’ve been killed by the perfect storm. Early 1st round entries, injuries, probation limiting scholies and coaches on the and kids leaving.

The thing is...there are guys out there that are worth playing at cuse...I'm really on board to going after Golden but does that take away from one of our 2019 targets? (he shouldn't scare anyone away but who knows). I'm also in the boat of seeing if Samuel wants to reclassify. The easy answer is to go grad transfer market

I just don't want to hear our salty coach 9 months from now complaining how he doesn't have depth or guys that do "things" on the court...here's your opportunity to add pieces. DB didn't do this in July or August, he's doing it in March...we have time to fix this, definitely not to the top 10 talent level but we can fix this

Thanks but I am fine.

Not sure recruiting has been much better than usual. We had some good recruits in past years that wound up being busts, so our recruiting's bound to look better. I think on paper the BJ Johnson class was pretty solid (although a few of them were not highly ranked), then the players bailed or were escorted out.

I can't consider DB in this class. I know that is unfair but if the player never makes it to campus, I can't factor him in. It's like Diagne. He can't be factored into his class. He never got to SU. Again, I know that's unfair but right now we only have Jalen and Buddy. I like these players but this class is very underwhelming.

Final 4’s and sweet 16’s are evidence. But sure.

Again, I mentioned those runs. Big picture, you have to look at the other factors. Is Loyola Chicago a better program? Are we in better shape than the programs who didn't make the Sweet 16?

The more I truly analyze the team the more it seems offensive structure/scheme is far down the trough of importance here. All the focus goes into the defensive end and recruiting for it. Too many times the past five years offensively the team looks lost even post-January. Total disarray. Lack of details or secondary plan of attack. White/Lydon/Gillon...same thing as this season. Shot clock winds now but they had really good contested shot makers to bail out the scheme. It is what it is. Plain as day to see.

If we continue to have success in the tournament then I think this panicking is completely overblown. Winning is all that matters.

When the time comes for JB to pass the torch we will deal with what we have to then. And certain posters here will be thrilled our HOF coach moved on.

Could've been left out in '16 and '18. Could've gotten in in '17. Let's assume we only got in one time in those three years, would your outlook be different?

Sure. But we weren’t left out and we went on runs both times. Does that tell you anything?

A little overachieving in the tournament, sure. And I give these players a lot of credit for their grit and determination once they made it. But the point is Cuse (and fans) shouldn't have to sweat out the bubble year after year (lately). Need more talent that comes, stays, develops, and reaches at least expected potential if not more with less Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moments and games.
