2024 Schedule

We now have to give someone like UConn or a MAC school a road game in return so it kind of does.
Why is that?

SU swapped a road game with a road game for this year. That’s the net effect.

Very true, but if you're staying mid strip you can jump the free tram taking you from the Bellagio to Park MGM, walk through NYNY, cross the street and jump the other free tram to Luxor or Mandalay bay to get to the stadium.

Mid strip might be a good idea for first timers, as it gives you the option to explore in either direction, without trying to walk the length of the strip lol
It’s been 10 years or so since I was in LV. But can’t you just walk the whole strip? I seem to remember doing that a few times. Of course, it’s hard to carry all of the hand-out street cards. But if you bring a backpack…

Why be locked into UNLV?

This is an opportunity not a problem.
I like this thought process. The Japanese have a word that simultaneously means “crisis” and “opportunity.”

Crisatunity.

i know a bunch of Miami people that have been waiting for ever to get back up here and now wont be coming. that is the worst game possible for a travel team.. No Miami fans and no students and half the locals will struggle to come
a bunch of Miami people? They don't go to home games let alone travel, seems odd.

If Syracuse is 8-3 going into the game, the game will be very well attended.

Apparently one of the city's "demands" when they were discussing building Allegiant, was that UNLV would be able to play all home games there. I don't think they've used Sam Boyd for anything, besides maybe covid stuff, since Allegiant was built.

Which is a bummer because it's like 5 mins from the house, looks like a cool stadium, and from the photos I've seen has some amazing views.

Allegiant Stadium is pretty epic though. Walking across a shut downed overpass, crossing over a traffic packed I-15, staring off at the buildings on the strip, with 20-70k people after a game, pouring into the casino and partying for a few hours is pretty epic too.
Definitely makes attending the game more appealing. I usually get out to Vegas each year. Might have to make it this weekend for 2024.

There’s only so many open weeks. And SU switched UConn to be a home game to satisfy the people who were clamoring for 7 home games.

I swear SU can never win with some of you folks. Maybe they’ll play a game in your backyard someday.
Yep, a lot of moving pieces to try and plug a few holes. Not sure what people expect the people in charge of scheduling to do in this case. I find it quite odd really

Ah yes, we enlarged the student section thinking about one year and one year only.

This is such a ridiculous take I have to applaud it.

Makes it an even harder pill to swallow for people who are displaced already along with the rat race that is to fight everyone else trying to find new seats

I do recognize that this is the time to move the student section if you’re going to move it.

But the reality of the situation is, where you like it or not, it’s a hard pill to swallow for people who are losing their seats that they have purposefully chosen because of a variety of factors and have chose to sit there for years.

And knowing that not only now are you going against everyone who has been displaced by the student section move, but also everyone else in the dome is a very scary thought.

I get the angst over relocation of the student section, but there is a reason for needing more room for students. Syracuse had an issue with retaining student season ticket holders. Freshman participation was very good but the percentage that renewed dropped precipitously each year from sophomore to senior years. To combat this trend they introduced a 4 year student ticket plan in 2021. Basically you paid for all four years up front and the fourth is free. That helped solve the issue but caused the need for more space. Students attendance, led by Otto's Army has been growing steadily and tickets have sold out the last two years. In many cases it was freshmen and incoming transfers that were initially locked out. They have been adding 500 student seats each year to help.

Second, moving students 100% to the end zone opens up two sections of prime lower bowl sideline seats that command a much higher price point than end zone. Combined with the reduction of the number of seats - around 20% in the lower bowl - this required a need to dedicate more real estate to that constituency.

All makes sense. Tough on those affected, but a sound solution.

But...but...what about the azaleas??????? Something needs to be done!

That all mostly makes sense, except the part about wanting to retain student season ticket holders but then giving them much worse seats far away from the Syracuse sideline. It's no surprise that SU went for the money grab, but the new student section is not enhancing anything for the students' experience.

The number of student season ticket holders has grown so large that the original sections reserved for them are not longer sufficient.

In addition to their tradition sections on the 100 level in the southwest corner of the dome, the last couple of years they had spilled over into other sections in corners of the upper level. Sometimes mixed in with normal season ticket holders.

They hated being so far from each other. They requested a change so they could all sit together. SUAD and SU administration makes the students a top priority and they are accommodating this.

You might not think it is a win for the students but they disagree.

I understand what you're saying, but didn't the students have a 300 level section before this move? I can only remember seeing that section full once, maybe twice over the last couple of years. I don't see how that lines up with tickets being sold out, unless there are just a large number of no shows each game. Couldn't they have just expanded their 300 level seats across that endzone, since they were already allotted a section over there? Full disclosure, I wouldn't really care as much if I hadn't been displaced.

This contradicts what I've read on here about Otto's Army not wanting to move.

I'm not sure I follow. The new student section is still split up between the 100 level and the 300 level. How is that any different in that regard? They are still split up, only in worse seats.
