John Swofford: ACC will move to 20 conference basketball games in 2019 with the launch of the linear channel.

More than 1,300 ACC events will be distributed across the ESPN platforms in 2019 when the linear network launches.

Swofford: ACC Extra is first platform in this plan. ACC Linear Network will launch in 2019. Goal is to televise events from all ACC sports.

Swofford: ACC football and basketball games combined generate more viewers for ESPN than any other conference.

This will help ensure programs like Duke and Syracuse play home and home every season in basketball. The ACC leveraged their strongest hand to help get revenue in line with the SEC and B1G.

It might mean the annual games against Cornell and Colgate are going to end. It will almost surely curtail the number of games SU plays against former Big East programs.

It's about maximizing the attention of the media. The announcement grabs everybody for a while, then release the financials at a strategic time to steal more headlines, maybe during another conferences media days.
